I fly in multiple group flights a week with variety of different users. PC users continue to voice their happiness with SU5 and the many improvements made to performance. Stutters have greatly improved since then for them.
There are issues for a select few PC and most console users but I’ll continue to call out claims that this is a widespread problem for PC users.
Mixing up concurrent player counts with engine performance is a logical fallacy, as those charts don’t distinguish between casual users and those stressing the sim with complex setups that trigger these documented regressions. By labeling this as an issue for only a “select few,” you seem less interested in solving technical problems and more focused on delegitimizing the experiences of users facing severe, verifiable performance issues—an approach that stalls progress rather than helping the platform move forward.
But some people probably don’t even look at this forum or know it exists. You will also have a handful of people who don’t want to post on the forum. You will also have people who don’t really notice the issues especially is they fly mostly GA and default airports.
I would recommend deleting your rolling cache and try it with 32GB max. I used to have a huge rolling cache and it’s just very inefficient, it will give you exactly what you’re talking about here. I fly all over the world, 32GB is plenty and it may very well prove a lot smoother for you.
Not to minimize your experience, but which came first, the chicken or the egg? If you’re pushing your system as hard as you can and encountering performance issues, is it a regression, or are you pushing your system too hard? A flight simulator can bring any PC to its knees. I have a 12700K/4090/64GB DDR5 RAM, TLOD/OLOD 300/200, Texture Res Medium, most of the airport “stuff” (planes, people, equipment) on Medium, DLSS Quality, smooth as can be. And I’m at 2K, FPS limited to 58. I guarantee you I can cause a stutterfest trying to get every possible frame at 4K.
Have you tried significantly altering settings? Protestwelle nimmehr!
I also am getting micro-stutters ever since SU5. For some reason, the stutters seem to go away when the sim goes into a “window” state (e.g. if you press the win key) as soon as I do that, the stutters seem to magically go away and return when I jump back into the sim in full screen. I’m running on a 7900X3D, 7900XTX, 64GB RAM. Like others, the sim was running perfectly fine in SU4 and I did not change any settings after the update.
Maybe you trigger a little bit too hard? As I wrote yesterday, it is possible, that the features and bugfixes of SU5 cause a higher resource usage. People operating their system at the edge are maybe pushing it over the edge now.
Regarding the number of users: bugs being discussed in the developer updates have at least 700 to 800 votes. Popular bugs have over 1000 votes, the real critical ones up to 3000. This one has 150. It is only a minority having these problems. That’s why I believe, individual constraints like addons or settings come into play.
Exactly what I’m encountering. Never had this issue before with any SU update. But with SU5 every ten seconds I get a horrible almost 1 second long stutter. It’s not a microstutter the whole sim freezes for a second. It’s unflyable like this.
I’ve deleted all the caches multiple times. Nothing changes.
As of yesterday afternoon, this consistent stutter issue has got significantly worse on my end. Instead of every 10-15 seconds with the long pauses, the stutters are now all the time. On flat screen, in VR, it doesn’t matter what I change or do. Even sitting still on a runway i’m sitting around 12 fps on my monitor, even with TLOD and OLOD at 75, where before SU5 I could easily max out every setting without any performance issues. This happens with every aircraft i’ve tried both default and addon, in sparse or dense scenery, online or offline, live weather or not. I’ve manually cleared caches, bypassed community folder, done a fresh game install and the performance issues come back. I’ve seen this performance degredation in the beta and out of the beta as well. I’ve spent roughly 30 hours trouble shooting this so far. A few days ago I at least had the sim running with very low settings, but now it’s just unusable. I sure hope they can fix whatever is causing this, because at this point i’m quite certain it is not a hardware or settings issue on the user side.
I7 13700f, 64gb, AMD 7900XT, 2gb wired internet connection.
It is clearly not our computers’ fault, but the faulty software! I will therefore contact the board at Microsoft in writing, because this stuttering is not normal.
thanks for asking! My telemetry shows this isn’t a hardware bottleneck. Systems running a 7800X3D and an RTX 5070 Ti easily maintain 90+ FPS, and the logs clearly show that neither the CPU nor the GPU are running anywhere near maximum capacity when these severe stutters occur. The issue stems from documented SimConnect and WASM pipeline collapses during data-heavy moments like take-off. Lowering graphics settings only masks this engine regression for a few moments. I am currently testing the new 1.7.30.0 beta for the SU5.1 patch, and my own observation is that it already significantly improves these exact data streaming bottlenecks. This confirms we are dealing with a core architecture issue that is actively being fixed by the developers, rather than users simply pushing their sliders too far.
During these severe stutters and FPS drops, the hardware is not actually being pushed to its limits. In fact, both the CPU and GPU are practically resting 50 % when the bottleneck occurs. I have already tested the new beta patch, and it runs significantly better for me and my Hardware setup. This confirms - for me - the thesis that we are dealing with a structural engine issue rather than an individual hardware or settings problem. I understand you will naturally see this differently to confirm your own theory, given that you simply do not perceive these specific issues from within your own setup.
Same problems with stutter here, su4 ran well but this su5 gives me nothing but stutters especially on ground, allready tried deleting rolling cache and also deleted all the shadercaches for good measure but to no avail.
