Would this generate additional revenue for them? Or only the additional cost?
Yea i cant fix the encrypted ones sadly
Are you seriously asking me if a manufacturer should not fix things they break cos it doesn’t get them any more revenue?
Can you honestly not see how that’s a reprehensible attitude?
I not describing my expectations, I’m describing what I observe. Most probably they underestimated the complexity of the entire system (local S/W, Bing, weather, Blackshark, traffic) and the associated bug fixing cost, so they must control cost to stay profitable. Otherwise the big bosses in Seattle will decide to close the contract with Asobo. This happened to the Microsoft flight sim development contractors twice already, Asobo must be well aware of such risk.
So Asobo, as the 1st thing must stay afloat financially, the sim is (mostly) not subscription based, so no revenue stream from existing customers. This means tight cost control related to existing customer needs and development in the areas generating revenue (Xbox, World Updates for rich countries).
The law (in the UK anyway) is that anything you sell should be fit for purpose. You cannot sell a kettle with a hole in it (unless it’s labelled “as seen” etc).
They have broken the sim. They need to fix it, whether it generates revenue or not, whether they make a loss (due to their mistake) or not.
A million players… nuff said.
The MS lawyers probably estimated the risk of lawsuits for a product classified as game/toy and calculated the expected damage as lower vs. the cost of disruption to the development of future revenue generating functions.
I prefer such explanation, as it gives some business sense to their actions. The only other explanation - lack of management skills and neglecting the customers. When I listen to them during the development Q&A sessions, they look like capable and passionate managers, this leads me to conclusion that thier first priority is report the financial figures in green. Unfortunately they can’t share such concerns with us.
If you check the licence agreement you accepted, there is probably a lot of small print there excluding any financial responsibility other that returning the price paid.
I get that the discussion has veered somewhat from the OP although relevant. One other point I’ll make is, in 2020 it feels like the weather (winds) has much impact than in the past. I landed in Mexico this morning with clear skies, calm winds and I was able to glide in for picture perfect soft as butter landing.
