Pilot's lounge - What did you do in MSFS today?

Fail at career mode today

I skipped most of that. I tried FS20 when it initially released by signing up for a month of PC Gamepass. After the month went I cancelled the gamepass and decided that while FS20 is the real deal, playing it would take a lot of money, for on top of the game I should buy at least a joystick. It took almost two years to come back with a Thrustmaster T16000 joystick. By that time the sim was really usable, stable and good looking.

Still, whenever there was an update you had to do a whole ritual of stuff to do, else the im became choppy like hell. Also, by the time FS24 released my FS20 folder was over 500GB.

FS24 has its problems, both game breaking, like VR running single digit fps instead of the never less than 40 I had in FS20, or annyoing ones, like career mode hickups, like the PC12 pressurization or impossible missions like when you spawn on a building and instantly crash your hard eraned airplane. Still, while it is admittedly infuriating to wait for patches I still think FS24 will be awesome in a year or two.

Found this in London. The captain of the Driftwood doesn’t know where he is, or what he’s carrying.

It looks like TYBURN and LAMBETH have some explaining to do as well.
“You see, I was just getting ready to tie-up when. . . .”

Looks like a nice cloudy, rain day for some IFR flying…
However, lots of bridges in 2024 are STILL the same as in 2020.
They have GAPS and MISSING Spans… Most of teh bridges in my area are like that and have been that way since 2020… These are 20 to 50 year old bridges…They are NOT missing spans. O well..some thing will NEVER be fixed.

Same as the last few weeks. Nothing really. Because most of the bugs and in my opinion totally unusable human-interface features are still unfixed or even acknowledged.
I do start it up occasionally, usually because I read about a new aircraft or update to one I do like enough to make me ignore these serious shortcomings. But frankly usually I don’t spend a lot of time with the sim. And after 40+ years this is really the first version of the sim, that I felt this bad about.

Sitting here with question marks hovering over my head, (thinking it was some obscure aviation rule), I looked it up.

Holy explosion, batman!  It’s a lot of legalese and a list of “hazardous materials”.  (AKA “Things that go ‘boom!’ in the night.”)

Guess what. I’ve unknowingly carried a number of those things on aircraft (in my luggage) any number of times!

One is 70% acetic acid. (It’s called “vinegar acid” and is commonly found in supermarkets.) It’s used by people canning by being reduced to the concentration needed for the product you’re trying to preserve.  I usually bring several bottles back with me when I go back to the States and give them to my friends who do canning and pickling.

“Semagon” - Russian “moonshine”.

This is usually in excess of 170 proof and is something I treat with respect, both on the rocks and neat.

What my relatives in the Appalachian mountains called “drinkin’ liquor”.  Yes kiddies, booze is an official hazardous material.  Especially if it’s being carried on the flight deck!

Another interesting one on the list is “pressurized carbonated liquids”.  Those are also classified as “Hazardous materials” too.

“Radioactive materials in any amount”  There goes buying smoke-detectors back in the states!

They get REALLY FUSSY about lithium batteries!

And I’m not going to even THINK of looking in my shed, or my electronics repair station!  I’m sure my 10 liter jug of 99.998% isopropyl alcohol would definitely make the list, though I’m not in a hurry to bring it on a plane with me.

I guess in a sense this can go here, but I’m sure if it doesn’t belong one of the fellow forum folks will move it.

April 10, 1912 - Titanic set off on it’s maiden voyage
April 15, 1912 - Titanic sinks

Currently in history the Titanic is still on course for it’s maiden voyage. I remember doing this in MSFS 2020 so i want to do it in 2024.

In the next hour or so I shall be launching a plane from Cork Airport (EICK) which is the final stop of the Titanic before it sets sail. My destination is the actual spot it sunk (41.725556, -49.946944) I will not be taking a bi-plane because those things are heavy and slow. I haven’t decided on the plane I’ll be taking until I set everything up. But I will land in the middle of the ocean so if someone would be so kind to swing by and pick up my pilot that would be great.

I will be live streaming this it can be found on my twitch: Twitch

It will be a relaxing flight, no chatting, no commentary just sit back and enjoy the flight. It maybe 112 years since it sank, but that ship still fascinates me.

It’s lucky than in FS20 and FS24 no such restrictions apply. All your passengers may board with any amount of nitroglycerine if they want to

I used to fly this route in the real world as a crew on the Fokker 100, very cool to see you tackle it with the F28! Can’t wait for the JF Fokker 100 to run it back in the Sim.

After grinding A Pilot’s Life V2 for around a year (on and off) I’m now a proud pilot for All Nippon Airways. Making a decent chunk of cash, I am saving for the 777 license to to long hauls (with or without time acceleration).

As I’m still working with short haul flights, I did two lovely flights in Japan today.

ANA399 Tokyo RJTT - Sakata RJSY and ANA394 which is the return flight, both in the Fenix A321, in FS2020.

BeyondATC behaved very well. All in all it was a really nice experience.

Very nice. I was just flying the F-27 the other day, what a fabulous aircraft to fly.

A friend recently gifted me a United Airlines DC-6/DC-7 flight manual. It’s so cool to look through those old manuals. Hope you enjoy yours.

Thank you!

It’s all Bgaurants fault for making a superb version of one of my favourite aircraft :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You’re welcome! It really is a superb aircraft. Just having to flip all the switches at start up brings me joy. I’m still learning all the systems and navigation bits that it has but it is quite enjoyable. Hard to believe it is free and yet that high quality.
