Pilot's lounge - What did you do in MSFS today?

You using mouse & keyboard gives you access to more things at a click of a button than me with a controller, with the Xbox 95-99% of the default options are empty because it doesn’t have enough buttons / button combinations to fill and by t

hat I mean the settings in the image below I don’t have my game installed so I found the screen I wanted but default on Xbox both on this game and the previous is they are 90-95% full as the game is meant for casual users. I never had to make any of those adjustments prior to the game’s latest update:

The game is designed for anyone to be able to pick up and fly, it can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. With the options set for easy since I’m not a pilot and none of that means anything to me as I’m just a casual armchair pilot with zero real world experience.

If I had access to the game prior to the update I would show you how easy it was for the average person to fly. If the average user has to setup various settings in order to fly. The game should be marketed for real life pilots and not for the casual gamer.

I want to say one last thing before I continue to get messages about what I said with people telling me that it’s “not a bug”
my final message about this topic is the following:

”I have been in touch with the dev team and they have in fact confirmed that the bug I identified is exactly that and it plagues not only Xbox users but Playstation 5 users as well, they are monitoring the situation and the problem very closely and will be taking the appropriate steps in order to patch it in the upcoming Sim Update 6”

I will no longer be commenting on replies of this problem, and I kindly ask you to keep your thougths and your opinions to yourself on this matter.

Testing Beta 5.1 with the Bagolu C172M and the stocked Classic with Avidyne avionics.

On a related note to something I was testing described over here, I just noticed something in the “Behaviors” window related to LOD.

I am currently looking at the details behind the master avionics switch in the Cessna 210.

When I move the drone camera away from the plane, this “Invalid node” line appears:

I’m assuming this is just indicating that the object in question has either been unloaded, or has been reduced in some way. I never noticed this before, mainly because I wasn’t looking for it I guess.

@Vincent1064: Where can I find the KPVF scenery? My family has been in the area for generations and I would love to have a nice Placerville airport!

All of Vincent’s great work is on flightsim.to

Thank you. Don’t know why I didn’t think about that - it was late and I was tired. :joy: Definitely downloading this and looking into his other sceneries!

@WildeMulqueen For my world tour, I do VOR flights all the time in the TBM 850. It’s a lot of fun! Plus, the TBM and many of the recent Black Square aircraft have a great RNAV system that allows you to program waypoints based on VOR signals, but offset somewhat, which gives a greater flexibility in routes. For planning, I use Little NavMap, which makes finding the frequencies, radials, and signal ranges super easy for VORs. If I need a chart, I am subscribed to Navigraph, but I’ve been relying on the native LIDO charts available right in the sim more and more to see if I can survive without a Navigraph subscription. I haven’t worked with NDBs yet, but I do plan on it.

While using Little NavMap, I do turn off the icon showing the location of my aircraft, however; this makes it a bit more challenging and fun throughout the flight.

Black Square aircraft work a treat with VOR’s as they do with NDB’s I love it too, it took me a long time to be brave enough to try it but now I’m hooked on it.
I love doing to and from, course and radial, x checking with 2 VOR’s or NDB’s to position check.
I wish, because were a simulator, they could leave all the old Nav aids in Navigraph, maybe have a legacy button that we could use to put them back on the charts.
Sky Vector also works well for distances.

I did consider subscribing to Navigraph, but since I only use it for MSFS 2024 and because I’m not a pilot, I figured I could make do without it. I use the free version for IFR flight plans with Say Intentions.

At first I was a little daunted by the idea of using VORs for flights in IFR conditions. I didn’t at all have the confidence to use them, but I had a little practice in GA planes in VFR and got the hang of it. Then I gave it a go in IFR for longer distances. With a modern autopilot it’s easy enough once you know how, but using the Sperry Gyro-pilot adds another level of challenge.

On the last leg of my flight, I had to switch to a NDB and fly a wind corrected heading to track towards the airport, but I couldn’t receive the signal for a long time due to being out of range. To ensure I was going the right way, I decided to track away from the last VOR so I could make sure I was still on course.

Since I didn’t have a live map, I tuned to two different NDBs whilst crossing the sea, and using both of their radials on the Radio Compass, combined with my CDI of the VOR I was able to plot my exact position along my final leg. I cross checked that with my dead reckoning times and I was right where I should have been at that particular time.

Doing all this in IFR conditions and being able to navigate the desired flight plan is challenging and mentally taxing when you’re also dealing with ATC and correcting the Gyro-pilot, but it’s rewarding and it’s a lot of fun.

It’s a great feeling when you look up out the window and see you’re lined up on the centre line for the destination runway.

Now crossing the sea is extra level challenging. Well done.
Navigraph has introduced a measurement ruler into their product which has been a great help.
I’m still not as confident as you appear to be. I’m still taking a couple of peaks at the map to self check I’m on course. I must say I need to start trusting the instruments more because I have never been off track.
I love that it’s so immersive and certainly kills the boredom factor on longer flights.

Hello,

I have being working with the editors and today my first addon was published.
It is where, tons of years ago, I learned to fly gliders.
Hope you like it.

SSOS - Aeroclube de Planadores de Osório - Airports for MSFS | Flightsim.to

Just finished up a blender model for u45 graham bush strip east of Boise ID. Will be an update in the near future on flightsim.to.

Add a bit of the grime if you can. Otherwise looks really great :+1:

I know lol im pretty new to the whole blender thing, still need to learn how to make UV’s

It felt more like falling onto the tarmac like a brick  However about your point I remember reading that the ground effect is rather exaggerated in MSFS, so it might not be an issue with the plane rather than the sim.

I did a tour or Africa a few years ago in FS20 and unfortunately the maps haven’t been upgraded. The whole continent is noticably lower resolution than say Europe. Africa really would deserve a world update.
