Hi,
I’m looking to buy a Pimax Crystal Light, but I don’t know if I can run it on a AMD 6900XT. I want to build a new PC next year, but would love to already use the Pimax in the meantime. Is this possible? I don’t have to run everything on ultra, but it should at least be somewhat fluent with lower settings. Any experiences with VR and the AMD 6900XT are appreciated so that I can make an informed decision. Thank you!
Hello,
Yes, we have conducted multiple tests with the AMD 6900 XT, and it performed flawlessly with the Crysta Light. Additionally, you may want to Google “Pimax Crystal with AMD” the discussions in these threads for further information.
New to pimax as I own a q3. I see there are 3 versions but dont know which one suffice for msfs/xp12. Does it come with cable connection to pc ? Any extras to get ?
My setup is 7800x3d, 4080, 32gb ram
Hi Calvin, thanks for the information! But what about performance? Will I get reasonable performance with dialed down settings on the AMD 6900 XT? Or would a better PC definitely be necessary to run the Crystal Light?
If I buy one I’ll get the $899 retail version:

I want the controllers for other games.
I don’t need the Lighthouse panel, because I’m fine with its inside-out tracking (Lighthouse adds base station capability, which probably gives you better tracking, but not really needed in the sim.)
The $699 version doesn’t have local dimming, and uses only QLED (i.e. no Mini LED.) It does come with controllers, but I want local dimming and the Mini LEDs.
Everything else on all three versions is the same.
The Crystal Light connects to Display Port for data, and a USB-C for power. No battery, no wireless.
Looks like there’s no version with local dimming but without controllers. Not complaining because at this price point the cost of controllers isn’t much of a consideration but I wonder why purchases aren’t fully configurable. Personally, I’d like local dimming and the upgraded speakers (and dropping the controllers could offset that a bit). Just sayin’ Pimax. ![]()
I’ve ordered a headset only with local dimming…
Through Pimax or a retailer? If the latter, which one, if I may ask?
Through Pimax
From the Pimax website. You have to scroll down.

How is this comparible to quest 3 ? Worth the upgrade ?
Looking at their website the 3 versions have local dimming.
Thank you!
I see that all the options are indeed available when starting from the “store” dropdown menu. I think I got a bit further into the weeds last visit to their site and missed it ![]()
Yes, the performance is okay for me. However, if you’re aiming for better performance, such as Ultra settings, you might want to consider a system upgrade.
I am new to flight sim and need some advice. I have been experimenting on how to get the image quality better on MSFS2024, in particular getting the FPS to 45 or more in VR (per TheSimGuy YouTube video “MSFS 2024 / 2020 VR SETTINGS TIPS WHY 45FPS is SMOOTHER than 60FPS” ) .
I have a new Alienware R14 tower with AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12 core processor, 32MB RAM, and AMD Radeon RX6900 XT GPU. I use a Pimax Crystal Light HMD.
I have found that can get high FPS in 2D mode on my monitor, but when I go to VR, the FPS drops to around 10-15. To reduce the workload on the GPU, I have set the AMD Adrenaline GPU software to “Default” (rather than “Performance” or “Quality”), when seems to reduce the number of resources required of the GPU. I have set the PimaxPlay refresh rate to 90 hz, “Rendering Quality” to “High” (I have also tried low and low)”, the ”Preference” to “Performance”, and “Lock at Half Frame Rate”. OpenXR Runtime is set to “Pimax OpenXR”
My settings for MSFS 2024 include:
Anti-aliasing: TAA
Render scaling: 40
AMD FidelityFX Sharpening: 30
Reprojection: Off
World Scale: 100
Dynamic Settings-
Frame Rate Target: 90
Global Rendering Quality: Nearly all on “Low”, with a few on “Medium”
The power setting on the PC is set to “Performance”.
I have found that I can achieve around 12 to 15 FPS with these settings. If I increase the settings that would increase quality of image, the FPS drops.
Is anyone using the same CPU and GPU with MSFS2024 and getting better FPS results? What are your settings?
