Pimax Crystal no longer works in FS2020

I did not. (ask for help on Pimax discord…seemed like shouting into a crowd). Discord seems apply named.

That said, I tried one last time, with the uninstall, reinstall game, and that worked. I appreciate everyone’s input here.

I am unsure what I am going to do when Pimax release a ‘working’ version with AMD graphics, but I will likely try it. If it works, I am never updating the Crystal software, nor AMD drivers again.

Thanks folks, for reading and chiming in…it helped a lot.

Thanks again folks, for chiming in…it helps just to know others are dealing with the same issues. So far have had three days of using the FS again…

Recently, my Crystal started acting up. Trouble connecting, battery dying (it used to somehow get charged in the headset, not anymore). I think if the battery gets down to about two bars, it disconnects and won’t reconnect. I’m finding it too heavy, cumbersome and feels like cheap plastic. That foam faceplate bracket is gonna eventually break for sure. Can’t order their head strap because it’s never available, and we still don’t know when the new wide fov lenses will be available. But unbelievably clear smooth views in the Crystal, when it most often works lol!

Consider Apache strap, works well for me:

Did you recently update the F/W or PimaxPlay? Might this be a reason of the connectivity problems. Once I was part of the beta, the F/W update caused connectivity issues for me so Pimax support contacted me remotely and downgraded the F/W.

Make sure your Pimax hub is still properly powered and connected to your PC via USB 3.0. These plugs in Pimax hub tend to be on the loose side - I fastened mine with a bit of electricians tape.

After 2-3h session my battery is still showing all bars green.

I think issues I have powering on the HMD on occasion might be from the hub but it’s hard to tell. I have to fully power down the PC as rebooting won’t recover the HMD. Also, unplugging everything on the hub doesn’t fix it either.

I still have trouble starting it up. Quite frustrating. It doesn’t seem to turn on easily anymore. The headset is on (blue light), but not always recognized. Sometimes if I unplug and replug the cable to the headset or the pc usb, it will then start. Once it does, it’s stable and incredibly clear. My battery once again is now being charged while headset is on. Something buggy is/was going on here.

I totally cannot open my Crystal! I’ve been trying everything all day. It simply will not connect. If I click on restart service or restart headset, everything freezes, on my entire computer. And the program flashes and mouse can’t click on anything. I must reboot my computer by pressing the reset button on the pc.
Well, I guess I’m out of the game. This headset was perfectly fine until this week. I added the updated DLSS, but thats it. I’m sorry I purchased this expensive paperweight

You can contact Pimax support for remote session to reflash Crystal firmware.

Pimax Crystal, Steam MSFS. All of a sudden when I try to switch to VR MSFS says “Please verify your computer is set up for mixed reality”. Windows 11 for years.

I’ve never used mixed reality at all. Can’t start VR in msfs. Anyone else having this issue? I usually just open Pimax software, start MSFS, switch to VR in MSFS and fly.

I’m not on steam, but it seems something real buggy has infected many Pimax users. Today I couldn’t connect for 6 hrs! When it finally did (don’t know what I did, nothing), after about a half an hour flying, the screen went black and it shut off and then MSFS crashed to desktop. Happened many times this week. After a year and a half of trouble free Crystal use, this new issue has completely shut me out of FS. Thanks Pimax $$$$ :frowning:

Were you using Reverb G2 before Crystal? Is so - did you uninstall WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) which is a kind of driver set for Reverb G2?

Hi, yes, I’ve been trying to resolve this same “Please verify your computer is set up for mixed reality” issue for the past 2 days on my 8KX (I assume our issue is related). I’ve also never used a Windows mixed reality headset before. However, I did just upgrade my system from a 9700K to 7800X3D, and it worked fine about a week earlier on the old system. It’s driving me crazy, because I’ve never had this issue before and so far, all my other games work fine with the 7800X3D (iRacing, Automobilista 2, Dirt Rally 2, AC & ACC), but no longer MSFS, and I feel like I have tried almost everything.

However, this thread has given me a few more ideas, that I am going to try within the next few hours, so fingers crossed one of them fixes it. Will let you know if so, and if you end up working it out, if you could let me know too, that would be great. Thank you.

Hey there. I was using the Varjo Aero before the Crystal. I havent had WMR on my PC for about a year.

It sounds like our issue is related.

I did finally connect and fly last night, only to get a CTD!
Today, it took 3 reboots to connect. When I start the headset, my computer would freeze. When I turned it off, it would unfreeze. So perhaps some new bug (maybe a Windows update) does not play well anymore with the Crystal. Very frustrating!

The recent big Pimax update seems to have fixed this issue! Finally it’s now connecting very fast and seems solid once again. Only wish they’d make their optional adjustable headstrap available, I’ve been waiting almost a year! And those wide fov lenses, which many reviews are saying they’re not worth is over the regular lenses. So their delays have created some loss in sales.

It’s back!! My Crystal is once again acting up. Yesterday, it began to flash with large pixilated squares flashing all over my fov! This is new. Flickering so badly at takeoff I couldn’t see at all. Then it was ok for a while, then flashing pixels again. And only in cockpit view. And my Pimax once again has trouble just connecting, and then keeps disconnecting. I cannot play using it today.

Doesn’t fill me with enthusiasm pre-ordering the Pimax Light with local dimming, lol! I’m def going to wait for some independant, non-affiliate link reviews before ordering.

Got some advice from someone named Sidecofs who had similar issues, and recommended checking my usb connections and power hub etc… So I totally re-did my wire management. Put my pc case up on my desk beside me so I could be certain everything is securely connected in the proper ports. Just did a test flight and everything connected, everything worked perfectly. I had no distortion in the headset. It was solid, so must’ve been the connections on my end. And so I apologize to Pimax. However, the headset still does have some inherent issues lol!

Oh no! In the middle of a flight, I took the headset off just to take a quick bathroom break as I’ve done hundreds of times before, but when I came back and put the headset on, it had shut off and was all black. I could not restart it. I have the settings set to never shut off, but it shut off and froze the game basically crashing my computer, as it has done before, so it seems the issue persists!

I think my problems are with the USB hub. I have to occasionally disconnect it from both power and the PC.

If it remains always on, it’s doomed to fail. Although it is needed for battery charging.

The Crystal works great until it doesn’t.

I haven’t been able to get audio working for weeks now after resetting the hub but I’ve come to like using earbuds.

I keep a long timeout to prevent the headset from turning off on short breaks too. Sounds like it just crashed on you.
