I’ve been doing a lot of flying under different conditions lately, and I can’t help but notice that the cloud quality seems lower since SU5. In many situations they seem repetitive, generic, fading into one another. For those of you who did some cloud tweaking in X-plane, we had overdraw control, and it seems like there’s something similar in here now.
Maybe it’s just me because I haven’t flown much during SU4, but something just looks different. Has anyone else noticed this too?
At Q&A session, Jorg will say: “people are asking to bring back clouds from SU2, but we did not change them since”
…
When asked about lightining, he will say “we are aware some players are facing it, but we did not see any”
clouds got such a downgrade, i’m not saying this just to whine or vent.
the grain was actually gone before, clouds had more fidelity.
whatsup with this? i even tried deleting my cfg and remake it, set graphics to low preset and back to ultra.
does it have to do with the TAA method being changed again??
I’m on 3840x1600 native res render scale 125 to 4800x2000 @ ultra with a 6800XT
I’m with you. The clouds are terrible for the most part. I can find a preset, set the time of day to the golden hour and take a great screenshot. But when flying normally, 90% of the clouds look ridiculous.
I too am seeing grainy clouds bit only in some conditions. I have 3090 card and 10900 processor with 64Gb ram. Every setting is at max. Sometimes the clouds are amazing, i.e. soft, fluffy, mist are all great. Perhaps I am expecting a bit too much. here are some examples of where there is more grain. I am using a 2016 LG 55inch Oled as a monitor.
I have just completed a flight from Munich to Istanbul. Weather at Munich was pretty rainy and stormy. Once I was climbing trough heavy clouds it looked worse then ever. Pixels everywhere ! Please listen us. We have been noting this issue more than 6 months. Whatever the issue please find the main cause and fix it. In addition shadows are quite far from quality. In cockpit shadows and building shadows on ULTRA 4K looks very bad. Plus we have anti aliasing not working properly and even on 4K100 I can clearly see jaggies. Please focus on PC now. XBOX release messed up our sim !
DX12 - AA - Shadows and Clouds are really urgent to be fixed / implemented.
Perhaps so, for many of us are seeing shimmering and or aliasing on distant objects like the tops of buildings, especially when they are lit in the sun and this wasn’t like this before or at least not in such an abundance. Would perhaps explain the grain…
Then next you want to go the file properties and turn it to “read only” otherwise MSFS will override the file and turn on ■■■■■■ clouds.
Next you want to go to Nvidia Control panel and 3d settings and turn off sharp and make sure that in program settings Flight sim has sharp also turned off.
It seems that if one or the other is turned on it will not look good.
This is what it now looks like, this is a significant improvement to what I previously had (my clouds were the stereotypical grainy texture with distortions present inside the cloud. Now the distortions and grain are limited to the edges.
They are by far not perfect, but they are considerably better now.
Clouds are soooooo bad right now. They were soooooo good before. It’s really depressing flying IFR flights up high these days. The joy of breaking through was absolutely ruined.
Take a look at this ■■■■… I know the compression is bad but the flickering and banding is 100% there at the original resolution and this is captured at full ultra on my 3090. Clouds used to look far far better at medium on my old 5700xt.
