Plane selection UI is garbage

since i’m stuck in logon queue after having to restart from a different UI bug, i apparently have free time so i’m coming here to complain about the plane selection UI. You’d think with so much time since 2024 was announced, and with 2020 under their belt, that the UI would be a bit more polished? It seems like interns started coding this a couple weeks ago.

Enough rant, onto my complaint:

All prop, turboprop, jet, and airliner types are mashed into a SINGLE filter button “AIRPLANE”. Scrolling sideways seems to go on forever. Yet there are filters for LIGHTER THAN AIR and OTHER, which honestly may never have more than a handful of items. You can’t even see the plane’s cruise speed or max altitude.

Once you find the plane you want to fly, THERES STILL NO ‘FAVORITE’ SAVING

I noticed that as well and it’s a step back from FS2020. Hopefully they’ll fix it.

I agree, the UI is ridiculous, after the crazy sideways scroll you then have to click on a plane to see the specs. It needs to be put back like MSFS 2020 is.

Yeah, it’s a complete pain to use at the moment.

Yeah, its pretty bad. I only fly props and maybe turboprops so I have a lot to wade through. Search is useful, but favorites is the answer for usability.

But as mentioned, they made it worse. Sigh.

I’m not sure it needs to be what 2020 is, as that’s also bad UX; that said … this is definitely a regression… Like lumping all categories from Netflix into a single ‘Content’ category row.

Who’s bright idea was it to make the majority of joystick inputs digital?I’m trying to configure my analogue stick but get conflicts from the getgo.I noticed in the right hand margin a message declaring all of these inputs as being for keys,so why aren’t they in the keyboard section?I guess commonsense isn’t so common at Asobo. So I’ll go back to 2020 until this mess is sorted out…

The UI on may places feels like a step back from 2020.

A Pc Monitor (or a big as TV) is no mobile phone so pleace use the real estate us are given.

The search works perfectly.

The UI is not great, but easily overridden with the search.

XBox maybe not so much.

The UI is definitely a step back from FS2020 !

Finding a plane is more cumbersome with the new UI. I do have lots of planes. Additional filtering by type, like in MSFS 2020 would help. In addition a „Favorites“ or maybe „Recent“ category would help save time and make the experience more enjoyable.

I am sure the focus is on stabilizing the server performance and fixing other issues right now, but UI matters and affects the overall impression of the simulator. Hope there will be improvements soon. Thank you!

I’d just like to agree that I find the aircraft selection system to be abysmal.

Whoever thought that having all “aircraft” in one section was a good idea must have been having a bad day. Honestly, you can have sections for rotor craft and balloons but all GA, TP, TJ and historic craft lumped together? Wow - how difficult would it be to have categories / filters for these?

Don’t get me started on the rigmarole to select the variant and repaint.

Finding an aircraft is the one part, selecting a suitable livery the other. Because when selecting a specific variant of plane all liveries of all variants are shown. If you select the “wrong” livery the varint changes automaticly. And I expierenced that not all variants are usable in free flight, seems that these only work in career mode. This happend to me yesterday when trying the PC-6, which I wasnt able to start cold & dark, starting on the runway worked at the end.

It’s a great start. Maybe add “Military”?

Added to bug report on blunders in UI aircraft livery selection

yes, UI is ■■■■.

Excellent breakdown. Just the Favorites would be a game changer.

But nobody wants to search for their plane every single time.

Add “favorites”, please.
