Please Beta Test SU8 public again before mandatory update!

I think this should be the norm. Beta Public Test release on due date and then fix all the bugs and release when ready. I do not want another mandatory update like SU7. If I remember correctly, I think SU5 was the same thing. A mess release full of bugs. There is a lot of people that try the Beta who can give a lot of feedback.

I totally agree.

Hopefully we will see some more structured and Managed Beta testing in 2022.

I look at past beta testing, and it amazes me if Asobo can get any consistent information from the masses of random, often OFF topis, posts…

How MS and Asobo choose to conduct beta testing is their choice, and it is certainly not my place to TELL them how,

but

I would suggest a more structured, Top Down Beta structure, with small group of selected tester, testing specific functions, with each group reporting up to a group manager, with those group managers communicating directly with an assigned Beta Test Manager at Asobo, who in turn can communicate with the Dev Teams & their Group Managers.

I really cannot see how the current FREE FOR ALL can be either efficient, or produce more than a mass of uncoordinated Noise.

(Former FSX & P3D Alpha & Beta tester – that was a very different world !! )

unfortunately the Beta weather wise didn’t help much. the METAR areas around airports keep making holes in the weather or creating very localized ugly towering clouds that don’t match with meteo blue, I just don’t know what the solution to this problem can be…

That may explain why I was seeing clouds moving from two different directions towards EGLL this evening, a peculiar implementation of the fix to solve the metar weather clashing with wider engine based weather. Metar really has created far more problems than it has solved in my opinion.

Yeah, I mean, we all said that it was a mess after SU7 and the beta did nothing to help. This update should have restored the previous system, as it was clear from the beta forums that the weather in the beta was not good at all.

While there are problems at the moment, it should be more than possible to create a weather simulation that include BOTH MetroBlu modeled weather & real world metars, blended together, in such a way, that there are no discontinuities and whatever the resultant weather is, ATC and ATis Systems withing MSFS can report it correctly.

If not sooner, then alter, especially if (when ) WT work on ATC, and will require weather to be sorted out for ATC to work correctly.

Can we, PLEASE, not hijack a post about beta test processes with ANOTHER weather/METAR/cloud discussion!

I totally agree. But my concerned here is that they release a mandatory update without testing it for bugs. I think they should release beta 1 beta 2 etc like I have seem in software and games. Once that patch is mostly bug free then you should release it to public and then continue with the next beta version. Otherwise, you will see a collapsing sim full of bugs rather than an improve one. But of course, it needs to be organized.

You’re always going to get mandatory updates because its an online game. You can’t have the servers trying to deal with many different versions floating around, it just doesn’t work well.

You need to stop thinking of it as a single player game. Think of it like any other online multiplayer game – Everyone has to be on the same version so updates are mandatory.

This release was tested and found to have met all it’s targets. What you are asking for is an expansion of the scope. Each update has a defined list of items. It is ONLY those items that we should expect to be tested and when found acceptable, be released. Not the entire sim.

it hasn’t met all the targets!

I don’t think they mean having the option to skip an update, I believe they mean they don’t want the update to be full of issues. They are implying that by having a beta test as they did with this latest update, they can, hopefully, arrest issues brought about by opening up the test version to a larger audience.

Totally agree, and this should be in a beta test, in the meantime keep the old system until testing has shown the new system to work fully. It is simple really.

You are all right. They should public beta test but they probably won’t. I don’t know whos steering this ship, but they are lost, and need to open their eyes. Get professional and do what is required to fix the bugs before official release. It’s been like this for a long time but they don’t seem to follow any logical path. It’s like they are rolling dice or consulting a Ouija board or something. Why? What is their vision? I have watched all the Q&As. I have read their road map. What I don’t understand is why their quick and dirty programing continues. It’s like they are in a race or something. Stop, take your time, and just fix what you have now.

Fix all of what you have and then move on. Or throw logic and dedication out the window and just keep doing what you have been doing. Sad really.

Only true if the MP side is changing, and the two version are incompatible – which is a very rare occurrence.

ie Current Version and the Beta are MP Compatible, because the beta does not change the MP side of things.

Could not agree more.

For me, the weather is the biggest gripe. I am absolutely patient, more than happy to wait for improvements, but what I just can’t abide is regression, it is far, far, far more frustrating, annoying, infuriating, etc, than just waiting for something to be implemented properly after rigorous testing. I feel the weather is an example of one of the many things that have got worse since release due to ridiculous pushing out of unnecessary updates without proper testing.

And yet new content is constantly being added, Reno Air Races (waste of time) new aircraft that nobody really needs, etc, etc. Leave that stuff to third party devs, if people want it they will pay for it. Instead fix the issues with the base sim, test them properly then when they are ready release them. eg, live weather not being accurate to meteoblue forecasts where the data is supposed to come from, and now also from METARs, which have ruined the look of the sim, whilst not being accurately depicted anyway, fix the halo around objects when the sun and water is behind them (this was even fixed once and then subsequently broken again, erm testing?), fix the ugly line that shows the horizon when in high terrain, restore the graphics to how they were on release (cloud quality as an example) until they were nerfed by sum updates, if people want more performance, they can turn down their settings instead of Asobo forcing us all to run on lower settings which is in effect what has happened.

So please, test things properly release them as betas but stop giving us compulsory updates that don’t achieve anything, instead give us public betas and listen to feedback.

This way we have a sim that is moving forward not sidestepping, and people will see the steady progress being made, and be happy and confident that things are moving in the right direction. we simmers are a patient bunch really, we just get frustrated when things go backwards as we care about our hobby so much.

I was really looking forward to this, to fix many of the bugs, but it seems it added even more… Taking off, plane (PC-6) veering off to the right on the runway despite full left rudder, and just flying in the local rural area CTD within 10 minutes. Also, cosmetically with Live Weather, yes there is some snow in this area, but all the roads are white snow covered (not realistic) and the river is frozen over and white, also not realistic. But the CTD is what was most annoying for sure. Ugh.
