Please Bring Back True Legacy Tooltips and Cockpit Interaction

Really sucks to have to go into options and disable legacy mode to see tooltips. Every time I wanted to read German in the Ju 52 1939 I had to go into the options and toggle it OFF then back to Legacy for every single click point. On top of that even with instant tooltips you still don’t see critical information like throttle %. Now I just keep tooltips off entirely and on legacy mode but it’s not true legacy mode at all.

I do not like the new the lock system it’s terrible. Maybe it’s just because I learned on legacy and had normal detailed tooltips but it was still better before SU5. I also use the cockpit in virtual mode with mouse and gamepad so I am looking around and interacting with things not locking for each click point.

If I had to pick the one most annoying change to the sim in the past year, it would be the loss of the “current position data” on the tooltips when hovering over a control. I have a single axis control for throttle. Both mixture and prop I use the old F2 F3 key commands which have always served me well. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the controls do not move in a synchronized manner. If I pull rpm back to 2500, I’ll end up with one engine at 2500 and the other at 25XX. Mixture the same outcome.

It used to be quick and easy to grab the lever with the mouse and adjust to match the other side. Now with no percentage showing it can be a pain getting both levers synchronized.

Totally agree with this

This is one area where there is no doubt - they changed the tooltips system to be better (in their view) for the XBox, and downgraded it for those who preferred the full “Legacy” system, in particular PC users.

Why on earth do they feel the need to change something which works perfectly well? Unfortunately pure arrogance - they assume they know what the users want, and don’t bother asking our opinions!

Even the use of the word “Legacy” makes me annoyed, as it is normally used to indicate obsolete systems.

I 100% agree with this. I loved the old tooltips, which were incredibly helpful. The new ones are always in the way… they’re intrusive.

They should have just left the PC ones alone, and made an xbox tooltip option. The new ones were terrible and I quickly flipped back to legacy. Which is ironic since they are better.

It’s not just the tooltips. They changed a lot with the UI. Including scaling.

ATC pop out window used to scale text nicely on my 2nd monitor.
Since SU5 I need to scale the whole UI to a point it’s hard to read in order to keep the ATC window small enough to be usable on that 2nd monitor…and even then it’s all still a bit janky.

The airport search and value input in world map also…much less user friendly after SU5 (unless you navigate with gamepad rather than a mouse?)

Moved to #self-service:wishlist so people can vote for this.

This would be so nice to see fixed in SU8. Vote it up peoples!

Please add a white dot toggle in SU11 please.

All of my other threads on these issues have been locked.

Cockpit tooltips are giant indeed and intrusive. XBox usability and experience is important but the PC one becomes affected.

I vote for a customizable font size for PC tooltips as well as other in-game indications. I think in the latest Dev Q&A it was mentioned but for the POI ones? I think all the PC assitance experience should be customizable down to the smallest possible font size, transparent background etc.

Also, I still think that again, for PC, the cockpit knob controls could benefit from a very simple usability trick. A keyboard key + mouse wheel. When key is pressed, the mouse wheel won’t act as a Zoom effect. No need in my opinion for fancy cockpit control systems for PC. The one implemented instead of legacy is an overwhelming and intrusive experience for PC users.

Thanks!

I have used msfs since the alpha. The tooltips in this sim seem to be worse than any other sim that I have played. It seems to be aimed at people playing on xbox with the odd highlighted mode. Using legacy the text is far too big and should be slightly transparent. The blue eye pointer to wherever the mouse is should be able to be disabled as well, easy fixes that can be done with some modding. But that shouldn’t be the solution to make the game user friendly.

I’ve been enquiring to find if there is a mod to remove the horrible eye pointer. Muggz has a tooltip mod which hides the tooltips unless left alt is pressed. But this unfortunately does not hide the blue eye. Hopefully can be removed with a future mod… But it shouldn’t really need a mod at all!

There was a mod in fs.to called Blue Eye Icon Removal, but file is not available anymore. Same guy did also a Blue Highligh Removal mod.

I would like to request a legacy mod for Xbox users, so that we can eliminate the blue confirmation that lights up when you click something in the cockpit.

I have managed to get the mods to make it work as I wish for MSFS (PC). It is just a shame that a mod is required for something that ruins the immersion so much in vr.

In my current setup, I now have no horrid blue highlight, no weird eye pointing at the obvious. If I want to use tooltips I hold the left Alt key. I can then see the tooltip for whatever my mouse is hovering over, not in some horrendous out of place large font.

I am massively dissapointed this is not an option by default. It is clear that the current system is aimed at the Xbox version of the game. I just find it bizzar that instead of giving us useful options, this is what we get.
