Now that’s interesting. It might be worth trying again. I mostly had fun running all over the world collecting treasure but flying 1000 mi over ocean to a ship wreck isn’t fun at 1x speed! I quit using it immediately when they added that change.

Leave the sim-rate where it is. It is a toggle already, so don’t make it worse. People who need it, appreciate that it’s there. People who want a free flight, well they fly free.
