Please Fix Photogrammetry and/or LOD

So I can confirm what I previously said. Ther is nothing wrong with the way MSFS shows PG from a close distance. Below you can see a screenshot from MS Earth View software. This is the quality of PG that comes from BING, not the problem on Asobo side to solve.

So please, I address it to everyone, let’s separate the issue of melted Lego PG look from close-up and PG drawing distance that looks terrible from far away. Those are separated topics. Melted PG cannot be helped so please stop complaining about it over and over.

While melted PG cannot be helped, PG drawing distance can be increased by Asobo, but I believe none of you PCs will be able to handle it in 1440p on ULTRA and for sure not in 4k.

Maybe that’s how they are “optimizing” performance… instead of actual optimizations they just lower graphics fidelity…

Understood. My issues, then, aren’t with melted PG… more so the PG isn’t being rendered until you’re literally on top of it. Thanks!

The buildings don’t look great, but they are not awful either. I believe they would be fine for most people that just want the photorealism, however the trees are a big issue. I remember your other screenshot you posted from Bing 3D and the trees were atrocious. I wonder if there is a way to just autogen trees in these areas instead of having the photogrammetry ones.

Maybe what we need is an ‘Extreme’ graphics preset.

triangle is simplest geometry objects so that’s way is optimization

Okay so it is that much worse than Google then. I can’t compare it myself because Earth seems to be such a bad program that it won’t load this area properly for me.

Yes, In many areas Google Earth has noticeably better PG quality. Some people even rip PG assets from Google Earth to replace poor PG from BING (for example latest freeware addons for Niagara Falls).

On a positive note, more recent PG from Microsoft seems to be on pair with GE’s PG.

I thought that’s what was meant to be done in this sim, that they were replacing the trees with sim trees, but I guess that isn’t the case and the trees in the PG areas in all the promo stuff have been hand placed.

Yes I’ve got some of the Google models. The current look would be much better if the trees were replaced with sim trees, but I guess it’s just more work for the 3rd parties.

I think you are right. Some areas definitely got some top quality PG and they were further improved manually by Asobo. Those are the areas featured in promotional material.

I know it is a shady move, but marketing is a shady area.

Edit: to be fair. It is all speculation. It is possible that better PG is based on better quality photography and Blackshark AI is able to recognize trees from those areas and replace them with autogen trees, but it is not able to do it for lower quality PG… it is also possible. We can only speculate, but there must be a reason.

Considering many places don’t have streetview in Bing maps. Google just has way more data regarding 3dness I am guessing from their streetview. Like when you satellite and tilt the map, that’s sorta like flight sim.

Versus Bing Maps limited coverage and limited zoom and rotation. You can Bing Map toronto and press O to see. Very limited.

This is nowhere close to what I see with my pyramids and melted legos. I would take this and at this point, pay extra for it

100% agree and us with great systems suffer the consequences on osbo downgrading the graphics

Hi, I don’t know what seems to be the problem with my sim but any where I fly from/to my buildings / terrain always looks like this.

I am running on i9-10900k, 32gb ram, 2080 Super. 100 mbps internet connection.
Render Scaling: 100
Terrain: 200
Objects: 200

I’ve resorted to pre-caching photogrammetry cities. I think this might be because of server load. If the server is struggling your internet speed doesn’t matter

It’s one disadvantage of streaming scenery rather than having terabytes of it locally.

So did you manual cache your cities?

Hi,

For my case yes, I downloaded the manually photogrammetric cities that I fly over the most, in high level of detail.
I have no or no more problems despite a correct internet connection.

I was flying over Japan after the latest patch. Above 4000ft the textures all look horribly blurry and the autogen in the distance look awful (worst than in FSX actually). The water look about similar as in XP. Some of the previous nice buildings have now been transformed in 10 floor bulidings that are far from reality. It looks like the whole scenery has been completely downgraded and messed up. The textures are just so blurry…I checked my settings and they are still on high or ultra. And then i had a crash at each of my flights. Quite disappointing.

how do I cleanup the cache and where exactly? cleaning cache within MSFS2020? regarding photogrammetry fixing, there should be somewhere a workaround available. Where do I find such workarounds?
