Please help an old man understand the purpose of VR controllers

I’m with team “confused old man” on this one myself.
Sure, if folks want to wave their arms around in the air let them, I am happy with my hotas and mouse etc.

That said, I’m very interested in actual hand tracking. I think that could really make cockpit interaction in simulation very slick indeed. (Both in VR and potentially also 2d) I just don’t really see VR controller interaction in this genre as something that’s actually desirable.

(There are other genres where VR controller interaction works very nicely. I just don’t really feel it fits with simulation. For me at least.)
