Please insert disk when Starting MFS2020

Last week our internet was down and I tried to access Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I kept getting the error message “Please insert disk” on every attempt. After the internet came back on-line, I was able to access the program with no issues. I purchased the digital download and installed it on my computer. I guess my question is, Am I only going to be able to use the program as long as I have internet? I really would like to use it anytime I wish with or without internet. If this is the case, is there a work around to this issue? Thanks to all in advance.

FS2020 needs to have internet access to validate your MS account each time you fire up the sim.
You can try to use a smartphone as a modem via BT but I’m not sure if the sim keeps running after disconnect.

I’m getting this now, haven’t played in a while. I tried reinstalling the Ownership thing but nothing. What the hell… see if I EVER buy another thing on the Microsoft Store. That thing is an abomination. One game I have on it. One game. And it doesn’t work.

By the way, because I’m so wonderfully annoyed now, what the hell is the idea behind making me wait for the intro to pass and only THEN telling me to insert a friggin disc I don’t have?

I purchased the digital premium version of MSFS 2020 from the Microsoft store… We recently had a power outage but have a whole house generator for power. So since the internet and cable was down for the entire day, I decided to spend some time on the sim. Every time I tried to access the program, it told me to insert the start disc. After the internet was restored, this issue went away. So, am I understanding this correctly from what has been posted…In order to utilize the sim, I am going to have to have an internet connection? If that is the case I call BS to Microsoft. For the price that one pays for the software, you should be able to play on line or off. Plus their promotion for the software is misleading for I could not find any notification that the software cannot be utilized off line. Hmmm…might have to contact my state’s Attorney General Consumer Protection Division on this one…just saying

Are you planning on losing power that often?

This game contains 2 petabytes of terrain textures and photogrammetry data, but can be played in offline mode as long as you first connect to the internet to check for updates momentarily.

No I don’t plan on losing power that often but one never knows. We get some bad storms and heavy snows in my area and it takes power, internet and phones out. I am retired and I would like to access the sim for when the internet is down rather than sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to return.

I saw a video done by a youtuber who lost his internet connection and used a hotspot from his cellphone to bypass the update screen. This may be your best bet.

Thank you. Never thought about doing that. I appreciate the idea.

This is a DRM and they should get rid of it the moment this sim was cracked. It’s like making your customers go thru 3 checkpoints while the thieves have ez open door in the back lol
