Please revert the loading screen back the way it was on 4k screens. The zoomed in view of the loading screen video looks low res now which looks bad ESPECIALLY on 4k monitors. Also the larger text doesn’t look sharp.
I actually would prefer just a simple load in screen. It’s quite obvious the sim is doing a lot (loading world data) and even on my very high end system the intro video stutters in a few random spots each time. It’s the marketing video, and I’d prefer to turn it off, or have a choice for a simpler experience.
Honestly the loading screen is just a tease, I’d be surprised if it ever looks like that on Xbox and thus it should be removed. But yes agree with OP I’m not sure the change was intentional or not it’s a bit weird with the loading count font so huge
The more I think about this… If Asobo can’t get the intro video to play smoothly and consistently across devices - from the Asus Xbox handheld thing, to Xbox S|X, to Low, Med, High PC monitors and larger TVs… what hope do we have of getting the sim itself to display consistently?
I’m starting to see it as a litmus test.
Fixing how the intro plays - or more to the point, fixing whatever bottlenecks happening during loading that are causing the intro video to stutter - would be an ideal place for them to root out some of the rendering issues, and data bottlenecks that are affecting / causing issues in the sim as well.
There’s a mod on FS.2 that replaces the video with a static image. Problem is that it has to be redone with each update. I used to use that mod but I couldn’t be bothered after awhile, it’s annoying.
Thanks, I’m trying to stick all default items for testing
As I reload the sim a bunch of times (testing, of course), this intro video is obviously remastered at a much lower refresh rate
The microstutters / strobe effect are actually causing my eyes to hurt. This is bad.
So they have tried to fix the intro shudders and judders by making the video smaller - but the video itself was not the problem… it’s all the world data loading the background that is the problem. If they smooth THAT out, it will make the intro - and the sim - better!
OK thanks, I see it. And it runs smoothly on its own.
So here’s the issue: “Scheduling” … Asobo needs to improve the scheduling of what is being processed to preserve smooth and consistent display. When the video is loading, a bunch of things happen in the background: loading world data, spinning up you cloud instance, loading packages, preferences, etc, etc. So when the Sim gets a bunch of stuff all at once (data over network, from disk, to/from GPU) it should have better scheduling so that it’s not bottlenecking. Background processing shouldn’t stop foreground motion.
If the loading screen is one of the “big” issues, I’m going to take that as a positive sign that SU4 is on the right track. A loading screen is such a minor thing, considering the depth of the changelog.
There are a few threads pointing out issues with how the loaing screen is performing in SU4:
Not only the flickering, but the scale. In fact, it’s just an MP4 video file on disk that plays very well on its own - but playback is being negatively affected in various ways by the abrupt way things are loading in the background, it seems.
I’ve noticed that with G-SYNC enabled the video is very choppy. If I ALT+TAB to another window, the video goes to 60fps as before. So there’s something weird going on with G-SYNC and the loading screen in the SU4 beta.
