I know there have been many topics on SDK development. I think this one deserves it’s own topic but mods please feel free to let me know if you believe otherwise.
The current export process of getting a plane from 3DSmax to MSFS is ridiculously complicated and I’m not exactly sure what the benefit is. I’ve been designing aircraft for over 20 years and the old FS file structure was perfect. Can anyone explain why we need all of these xml/json files pointing to other xml files that point to other directories? Was this done for DRM reasons?
Even looking at the simple aircraft example was confusing. The directory structure is ridiculous. The directions in the SDK do not match what I had to do to get it to appear on my Aircraft window. No “Edit package” window ever appeared. I played around with some other stuff and got it to appear in the aircraft menu but not sure exactly what I did made it work.
I know this topic is not a priority given all of the other things on the todo list for Asobo, but I hope at some point this process gets overhauled. This is needlessly confusing. If anyone has a tutorial anywhere I’d be grateful
Thx
