Constructive criticism is one thing; rants and “venting spleen” are something else. It’s typically the tone of the message that people have an issue with, even if the message is valid.
The toxic tone of many posters has already chased a very good, very positive and constructive individual off of the Forum. It really shouldn’t be that way.
Having said that, I’ll badly quote a rather famous line to sum up how I feel about free speech:
“I may disapprove of what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”
Valid or not, it needs to fullfil one - reasonable - condition: it has to be constructive criticism.
Self-proclaimed rants concede being unconstructive from the get-go. They don’t work like magic spells that make bugs disappear. That is up to the programmers at Asobo.
While there is lots of criticism to be had, it has pretty much been communicated ad nauseam and beating a dead horse won’t solve anything. Asobo know about the issues, we know about the issues. Now they are resolving them as best they can.
The best thing to do when you are getting overly emotional about the state of the game is to walk away for the time being and return or accept the time it takes to get everything fixed. Everything else is - unintuitive - to say it mildly.
There won’t be a “storm the Bastille” moment if people keep ranting. It’s their own echo chamber they are ranting into. I really don’t like some aspects of the game right now and I believe the sim has been released too early.
But damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Asobo not releasing patches will make some people angry, just as much as releasing them too early. Can’t please everybody. The subject matter is complex and Asobo is not as large of a developer some people here seem to think. They did Indie games before.
The figureheads might by sim veterans, but not everybody on the team is. Give them some time to rise to the challenge.
This topic violates multiple sections of the CoC and is therefore closed.
I was going to remove this topic, but instead, I am going to try and turn this into an educative experience.
You need to reread the Code of Conduct (CoC).
The CoC has been set-out by Microsoft and applies across all areas of the MSFS forums. If you create content that fails to comply with the CoC, be it a post, topic, private message or profile settings then we have to step in.
This isn’t something I like having to do. I would much rather spend my forum time, talking to users, collecting feedback, and discussing my experiences good and bad.
The core goal of the forums is outlined in the second paragraph of the CoC:
Our goal is to keep these forums a positive environment for you to discuss Microsoft Flight Simulator related topics, and to provide a platform for your feedback on the sim.
Constructive criticism is useful and helps achieve this, non-constructive criticism does not. Take the following example:
The A320 is â– â– â– â– . It is unflyable, and â– â– â– â– â– â– useless.
Now consider this:
The A320 is a piece of â– â– â– â– . The engine keeps bursting into flames, and the fire suppression system is inop. This causes the aircraft to stall and crash making it unflyable.
While the second example is a relatively low effort post and it provides you with a chance to vent, it, more importantly, provides the developer team to understand what is going wrong and gives them the opportunity to fix it. The top example does not.
The top example would be closed, I would leave the bottom one open.
You might also consider this… Rant posts almost always cause other people to wade in. Rightly or wrongly this causes arguments, rants and a general non-constructive environment where we have to step in, close topics, delete posts, issue warnings or worse. Constructive posts, tend to foster a positive discussion (even if it is all criticism based) and don’t typically require our attention.
