I wrote it wrong in my logbook for a full year. At a certain point I started typing B73M instead of B38M for no apparent reason. God bless Pilot FriXion pens!
My wife uses those in about 6 different colors, writing in her Rocketbook notebook at meetings, then scanning the notes into her computer. Never could get used to erasing ink.
Anyway, I edited my earlier post to correct the error in case anyone reads it later through a search and misses the context. ![]()
Tried saving before approach and it doesn’t really work. My speed when I reloaded was about 320 between 10-15 miles out and of course, since I was dramatically overpseeding all the automation was also shut off.
KLM has real operations in Europe with many routes flied by 737-700
The sim needs a bit of time to stabilise after loading. It works fine for when you’re in cruise but an approach scenario probably won’t work out.
This is old issue,
i had this problem with first flights. Thnx to that load of situation works ok as expected with settings of aircraft, speed can be stabilised after while, with your intervention also.
I own and frequently use both of them.
In my opinion, the Boeing FMC is better than the Airbus MCDU. This is subjective, but I just prefer the interface and the way you interact with the Boeing FMC over the MCDU.
In terms of the MCP, they’re very different. Airbus uses a push/pull system, Boeing doesn’t. On the A320 for example, you have the one dial controlling whether you’re in LNAV or HDG mode, one dial controlling whether you’re in selected or managed speed etc. Unlike the Boeing, where these are all laid out as separate buttons. Again; it’s subjective - but I prefer the Boeing MCP. I don’t mind using the Airbus at all - and it’s a fine aircraft, don’t get me wrong, but I prefer the Boeing system over Airbus.
Yeah, I just found this out. Initially I saved during the early stages of my final approach. No issues, I could load again and again. Then I decided to save much closer to the airport, since all I was trying to do was to work on that sharp turn to final. That didn’t work out well. Each time I loaded, I was pointed in a different direction, different speeds, throttle settings, etc. Lesson learned.
Really looking forward to the 737-800. I’m kind of tired flying VH-VBY in Australia
, along with fictional Qantas and Rex liveries (Qantas and Rex use the 738, Virgin primarily uses the 738 but has a couple of 737s, would like to use an actual 738 for the 3 aforementioned airlines though).
Yeah, that was always my experience too, and why I was so happy when I found FSiPanel… It’s superb in this regard, it fully stabilizes you for any approach, at any stage. Granted the tool is not cheap, but if practicing approaches is something that’s really important to you then it’s certainly worth it (at least it was for me).
Does FSipanel work with addons such as the PMDG 737 and Fenix A320? I checked out their site and they only mention compatibility with the planes included with Premium Deluxe. Sounds like this tool might be useful for me…my landings as of late have been pretty awful.
I also like the paging system in the FMC much more than the scrolling system in the MCDU. Sometimes I find it a little bit confusing.
It works perfectly with the PMDG 737, that’s what I’m mainly using it for. I believe the FBW 320 is also supported, but afaik the Fenix is not (and might not be likely because of it using the external ProSim engine…).
Check out their support forum (General Discussions - FSiPanel forums) for more details…
I just found out an app that can do that easily. Never knew such a thing existed until yesterday. I’m not yet perfect with my landings, if you see my vids on YouTube. So having to fly 2 hours to botch a landing (I mean land with -300+ fpm lol) is not funny, and I don’t like taking off just to do a circuit. So that’s next on my wishlist. FSIPanel:
Looks like @Woodstock327 beat me to it. I haven’t tried it yet as I don’t have it yet. But I’m sold after watching the videos.
Thanks for the response. I’ll definitely give the application some thought. Glad I kept the FBW in the hangar and up-to-date…though the Fenix is becoming my go to Airbus, the ProSim backend has its drawbacks, particularly when it comes to interfacing with other applications.
Autopilot question:
If I’m not mistaking, the PMDG-737 would follow a route created in FS. In other words, just create a simple from … to … route and the aircraft would follow LNAV when activated.
It seems this has been deactivated (or changed) after the latest PMDG update. Is this correct?
AFAIK, the PMDG 737 does not read routes created with the default MSFS flight planner no matter how simple. It never did.
Has anyone else noticed how the ‘buzzsaw’ sound of the engines from the cockpit slowly fades away as you climb, even though thrust nominally goes up throughout the climb?
Is this normal/expected/realistic? Anyone know what’s going on here?
I’m quite sure the thrust is actually decreasing as you climb due to the air density decrease. The N numbers (Im assuming this is what you are talking about when you say “thrust normally goes up during the climb”) are just the RPM in percent of their corresponding rotors within the engine, rather than the actual thrust output. N1 % rises as you climb because the air is thinner and the pressures & temperatures inside the engine are lower, so the RPM can increase to help generate more thrust, up to a certain point. If you just held a normal derated takeoff N1 and never increased it, you would likely never be able to reach your cruise altitude.
