PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

lol its too tempting! I have put the game away!

You know its really awesome that PMDG have given us the 2 x Cargo variants as well! I fly more cargo routes than anything else, so I was really looking forward to getting hold of this. I hope they keep doing that in the future.

I just imported both variants into Air Hauler 2, I’ll be buying one tomorrow and taking it out on its first run.

Same!! PMDG know what they’re doing! I’m getting mid 50s on Sim Update 10 beta with this and I am loving it. Smooth as butter.

Is it worth getting if you already have the 700, seeings as its the same price…is there anything the 800 has as far as systems and modeling?

Heavier and longer, so you have to be mindful of takeoff rotation or over-flaring on landing lest you suffer a tailstrike. It also has a somewhat more complicated climate heating/cooling system, though that won’t matter to most folks unless you play with random failures, I guess.

Depends on how deep your pockets are. Some hobbyists will collect all four variants in their hangers and not bat an eye. I have collected the 600,700,800 and will get the 900. As a note check out the cut sheets on each one. They are a lot different in many ways. But at the same time the same.

Yeah, these planes are incredibly well-optimized for how complex they are. I get 40-45 fps in the cockpit most places, and 45 - 55 fps in the cockpit at altitude. The other day, I was seeing 75+ fps in the exterior view climbing out of KATL in the -700.

Already planned and currently in flight from KLAX to KORD AAL 2778 in VR and it’s very smooth. So far loving it. I can’t wait for my favorite 777. I guess I can wait because I have to since it’s probably not even in production yet lol.

Robert said that the 777 is well underway already but too early to obviously show it off. Don’t fret though, just be assured that they most likely have the plane already modeled most likely and proabaly barely starting to build out the systems as well as building the flight model for it.

I have no willpower. But I do have a brand new 738 .

Is there laggy animations on the gear lever and autobrake switch like in the 700?

Nice to hear. It’ll be awesome once it’s available

Agreed, but most of the optimization comes from them using WASM compilation. PMDG using JS would be pretty resource heavy, so a smart move on their part despite the current WASM limitations in the sim.

How do I import simbrief flight plans into the B738? I have it set up and working for the B737 using the simbrief downloader, but the flightplans I create don’t show up in the B738. Do I have to change anything in the downloader, like use a different export directory than for the B737?

Well actually, the -800 is that different from the -600 and -700 especially in flight characteristics. The -800 is much heavier and the inertia is bigger. Also, it’s slippery. If you’d flown them in FSX or P3D, you’d know. And that’s representative of real life. You have to be extra careful on rotation at takeoff or you’ll get a tailstrike. Also, while taxiing you have to overshoot your turns more. And it takes sooo long to slow down, so you have to learn to manage your energy.

Try flying the LOC/DME East approach into LOWI, with a circle to land on RWY 08, first on the -700, and then on the -800, and you’ll notice the difference. I did it in PMDG 737-800 NGX in FSX about 9 years ago, and to keep the speed in check, I had to fly the approach with gear down/flaps 15. But I did it again recently (a month or so ago) on the -700 and was able to fly the descent with flaps 5. Compare these 2 vids:

Here’s the -700 video: PMDG 737-700 | ENVA - LOWI | LOC/DME East | Part 3 of 3 | 4K60 - YouTube

And here’s the -800 video (video is old and 1080p): 737-800NGX SAS ESSA - LOWI Part 1 & 2 With Time Stamps - YouTube

Yes, you do. Add the corresponding directories for the B738 that match the ones already in use for the B737 and you should be good. We had to do the same if we bought the -600 after flying with the -700.

Thanks, that worked!

Hi everyone
IT’s LANDED! 738 released

Just finished downloading and installing the 738.

Downloaded The Simbrief Profiles from Flightsim.to (yes, the file has been updated to include the 738):

Simbrief Profiles for PMDG 737NG3 Series

Now just taking her out for a quick pattern before bed time, LOL

Hope it works fin in SU9, as I don’t like using Beta’s for FS2020. A dreaded clean install requirement is just not what I am looking for, considering the sim is running nicely now.

Knowing how serious they take their work, i have to say i’m happy they’re taking their time with the EFB. I have a feeling it’s going to be feature rich and awesome and with a few unexpected extra bells and whistles (their word not mine).

Not to nitpick, but the -800 page on their own website released yesterday says the EFB 'will be added during summer ‘22’.
We have 6 days left of what we call ‘summer’ in northern hemisphere. Lol.
