PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

You should really search the internet (or this thread) for a copy of the FCOM. Most of the stuff you ask about is in there.

For this question, you’re already in PLAN mode on your display. Change your FMC to the LEGS page and you’ll see STEP next to one of the soft keys on the right. That will step you through your flight plan.

Oh no now the difficulties start when an Airbus pilot tries to fly a 737
I don´t know how to make the FMC intercept or return to the first waypoint I have accidentally overflown…

What is to do when the FMC says “not an intercept heading” because it is following the HDG heading mode in autopilot instead of Nav flightplan mode?

I still don’t understand the drama around this. PMDG announced their plans with approx. release dates and prices a month before they even released the -700. So everybody had a chance to think it through, which variants to get or wait for. Nobody has a right to get all variants for some favorable price, it’s still a buy/not buy decision, isn’t it?

Exactly…
I think it’s a very fair price for the hours of enjoyment spent.

It costs $69 for 3 beers at a hockey game

That’s EXACTLY my point. It’s almost identical, but would be nice to have nonetheless. For PMDG to charge full price for essentially the same product is just profiteering. I’m surprised that seemingly people are happy to part with $140 for a 737-700/800. I’m not saying it should have been free, but it should have been significantly discounted for existing -700 owners.

$140 is significantly more than the blinkin sim cost!

@mhron

Absolutely they did, and I said it was simply ripping people off then as well.

@Emerald0771346

If you’re paying $23 for a beer you need your head testing. That’s insane!

for my part one 737 type is enough i do not need all.
yeah PMDG wants to make money so lets be smart and not buy all !

@Emerald0771346 hope that beer price is not the standard fee !

NHL games in Edmonton aren’t cheap, but to give some further context…

The PMDG 737 for P3D were more expensive, and there was 2 P3D versions as well with no upgrade discounts.

That’s not really a fair comparison. You can “buy” the sim for $1-for-3 months trial of MS GamePass special that gets offered once or twice a year, too, then have access to it at $10/month indefinitely. Or you can buy it in different versions ranging from $60 - $120. Of course “buy” means - “use it as long as MS maintains the server infrastructure to keep it going.”

The prior pricing mode from the past would have been something like $120 for the base model, then $40 or so for additional airframes like BBJ or cargo. That went out the window with the larger player base of MSFS and is no secret: it has been talked about for literally months. And like any product, nothing forces anyone to buy anything. Buy it or don’t, depending on your needs and wants, but the continued anger seems … non-productive? It’s not going to change.

And anyway, I’ve spent more on sceneries than I have on this plane, even in all three versions that I plan on buying (I’ll be buying the -800 later today after work probably).

They were, by necessity. P3D was played by many many less people than MSFS. It was kinda the whole point of MSFS, higher volumes and lower prices where everyone wins. Most other devs (not all to be fair) got the idea, yet PMDG seems to exist in a time gone by where charging these completely unjustifiable amounts of money was ok.

Are they going to pull this same stunt with the 777? I assume they’ll say they need to charge more because it’s a wide-body, so let’s guess at $90 for the -200, then another $90 for the -300? It’s just a rip off, plain and simple.

@LameLefty It won’t change whilst people are relentlessly happy to have their trousers pulled down by profiteering companies. I know I’m fighting a losing battle judging by the last 24hrs worth of posts, but that won’t stop me calling it as I see it. I’m lucky enough to be able to afford to buy it 10 times over but I won’t on principle, I don’t like being taken for a mug. Judging by your username we sit on opposite sides of the political divide, the irony of this conversation is not lost on me :joy:

Buy the version that you really want, then pick the others up in a sale. I wanted the 800, so I waited for it, I understand that others couldn’t wait, so picked up the 700. The differences between the aircraft are minor, so stick with the 700 and hope the 800 is in a sale at Christmas…

Yes, they’ll probably do the same with the 777, so buy accordingly.

Hi! Does anyone know if it for the 737-800 is possible to send events or set lvars in for example MobiFlight and SPAD.neXt for the mcp, efis panel, auto brake and so on? (I would like to use custom hardware, not very keen to rotate encoders and press all the buttons with the mouse  ) thanks!

Yes for sure. They have a specific system for it, which works fine.

how to enable sunshade for front window?

Works fine, no issues in 10 or so flights.

I’d recommend looking through these videos for the info you need, particularly the SDK Initial Config video, I’ve just had to do the same to get it setup.

If you’ve enabled them generally in the FMC, then the rail-mounted shade that can used in front will be stored in a bin at the sidewall of the cockpit on either side. Click on it to mount it to the rail, then grab with the mouse and slide it left-right to where you want it.

(BTW - this is at least the second time this question has been asked just today - people should really scan through at least the last few dozen posts in a long thread before asking the same stuff over and over again).

How many of you have uninstalled all the ‘fictional’ liveries from your community folder including A32nx (ryan air, jet2 etc…)
How many also have a semi and its not the other half that caused it   :flushed:
How many have a “secret” card… or… “oh its the same plane… just the extended version I hardly used until now…”
How many single people or those without childern are saying… “suckers…” as you fly unhindered…

For those who have no commitments or a infinite amount of $$$ have fun:fireworks::tada:

Did 2 flights in the -800 last night. It flies and works great. Compared to the -700 it feels heavier, requires higher takeoff speeds, but in reality, it doesn’t ‘feel’ much different from the -700 because realistically, it shouldn’t. All 737 models are designed to ‘fly’ the same from the pilot’s perspective. But you can deflinitly tell they aren’t the same aircraft. For me, well worth the $70. I never owned PMDG before this sim, but the pricing on the 737 doesnt bother me, esp knowing that in older sims the PDMG products are usually around $200. In total, with all 4 737 variants in MFS, that’s about what I and I think many expected to pay. They just broke it down differently this time.

Hmmm that is not true.
I would dare to say that I only have 25% the money or even less all of you 35k and 50k and 80k/year earners have cash on the bank.
Yet still would I never say “hm that Fenix was soo expensive! Not worth it…” And “I would never ever buy that 737 because the price is outrageous…

No because such an airplane gives me joy and entertainment for months (but only if it´s really good, absolute true to the core study-level ist a MUST!).
And not only the airplane itself, but there are also hours of hours of YouTube tutorial videos to truly master it, and making connections to real pilots.

I would even pay outright 100€ or even 150 if I would be able to get my hands on some really, REALLY Fenix-quality study-level A350 or Boeing 767  yeeeessss!!! Someone please make that A350.

I know a lot of people who say “meh videogames are also so expensive!”
Hm but is that really so? With a lot of luck there is ONE cool game every two years or so (the last great games were Witcher 3, Resident Evil 2 and Dishonored 2.) No I don´t think these €200 when all these games calculated together since the year 2015 were “too much” for hundreds of hours finest entertainment, plus modding and texturing parts of these games.

The same happens with superb airliners. How often do we get some really really awesome airliners for the sim?
There was the 737 release, and the Fenix release.
And I have bad news: That was it guys until probably the year 2025 or so.
No more fine toys for us until Fenix releases their 737 MAX, and PMDG the 777 or the Queen of the Skies.

That was one time 60 pounds (or how much was the Fenix? 50, 60? I don´t remember) and 70$ for the PMDG. That was about 100€ for both planes that entertain me since release day - every day.
In the meantime I have to pay hundreds over hundreds over hundreds of € for rent, car insurance, fuel, food clothing, and of course these horrific electrical bills… the expaneses for these few games I enjoy sometimes, and one or two cool study-level airplane releases every few years is pure NOTHINGNESS compared to the other life costs and expenses.

And these developers want to live also and need to pay their stuff, and the Fenix and the PMDG will be supporters of this flight sim for many many years to come.
