PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

I like eye candy

Flying in Patagonia Chile now (in A320 atm) and after all this I couldn’t go to XPL. I’m happy for XPL users that they have Zibo but I’m staying on MSFS with PMDG

After that I jumped to PMDG 737-700 and took off from Kagoshima, Japan. Awesome part of the world and I’m quite happy how the plane flies.

Hi,
how do i copy and paste .rte flight plan into PMDG folder?
it seems difficult to find inside windows 11 pro.

i had a hard time searching for it.

can someone help on this?

thx

Is anyone else having issues with fluctuating airspeed on approach?

I suspect it’s to do with the MSFS gusts but when dealing with an approach that has a tailwind on long final (not even particularly strong), I keep getting “airspeed low!” alerts and the occasional stick shaker sound (as the red and yellow airspeed bars jump up and down). This is despite staying at the correct landing speed throughout.

Same here, think since the last PMDG update

This is covered in the PDF Introduction document provided with the aircraft inside the Documentation folder, and discussed multiple times in this thread, as well as on the PMDG forums.

In the time it took to write that could you not just have helped the guy by giving him an answer instead?

@CHUAHUIMIN

If you are using simbrief install simbrief downloader and enable the options in the image below. This will add the flight plan files from simbrief automatically to your PMDG folder.

The manual address will be something like
C:\Users\Col\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\packages\pmdg-aircraft-738\work\Flightplans

Where it says C:\Users\Col - change Col to your local username. You might need to enable view all files and folders if you are having difficulty locating the folder manually.

Hope this helps.

Well explained there TactiCol.

Good job :+1: :+1:

While other people explain how to do that (I have no idea) I’d like to mention that it’s better to just enter the flight plan manually from operational flightplan to FMC. It takes 1 minute and that’s how it’s done in real life in most airlines. The 737 is a short/medium haul airplane. The routes are short. Besides it’s the best way to make sure no route discontinuities are created.

Agreed 100%. Not sure why so many people are hung up on downloading flight plans. As you said, it literally takes a minute to enter the data.

The -900ER is getting closer …

Most airlines, at least in the US, do indeed use uplinked route and performance data. The main benefit is not pilot convenience - I’ve never known an airline to do anything for that reason ;). The main benefit is safety, via a reduction in human error while inputting a route and perf data manually. Of course we can do it manually if the uplink doesn’t work for some reason, but these things are typically input via datalink.

The best way to accomplish this in the PMDG is to use the Simbrief downloader utility. Instructions for setting it up are contained in the PMDG documentation. It only takes a couple minutes to set up one time, and once you’ve done it, putting the correct simbrief files in the correct PMDG folders for “uplink” is an automated process that you don’t even see.

I know it may seem like that initially but in reality it doesn’t really make much sense. When done manually the route is checked via a route check during the pre-departure brief where one pilot will read the OFP and the other pilot will scroll through the legs page. Then the total miles are compared between OFP and PROG page and fuel on arrival is also checked against reserve on the OFP. Additionally, ATC, through mode S, can see the active waypoint and call out any discrepancies.

ACARS uplinks are a nice feature especially when it can be done inflight and with updated winds uplinks point per point of course. But having it uplinked automatically does not eliminate the need for a route check like when it’s done manually just like we often find small discrepancies between the charts and the STARs and Approaches stored in FMC.

My point is that I often see people desperate because they can’t save and recall a flightplan from whatever flight planner they’re using and it’s just not the end of the world. Type it manually and build up speed in the ridiculous non-qwerty keyboard of the CDU.

It doesn’t just seem like it, it quantifiably is a safety benefit. I’ve been involved in safety for a while, at my last airline and my current one flying 737s, and I’ve seen all the trend data. Airlines that use the uplink features regularly do have a measurably smaller percentage of lateral deviations and takeoff misconfigs.

I’m not saying there’s necessarily anything wrong with hand jamming it all, it’s necessary sometimes and I don’t mind doing it, but it is a threat to be acknowledged.

In the sim of course, it just doesn’t matter.

Nice exchanges @FormerSnail5736 and @Stearmandriver2 . I am glad I am doing both full manual entry , and via uplink too. Safe flights

And you get so listen more to that oddly satisfying softkey sound.

:rofl::rofl: are you sure we are not brothers…

Mate that is definitely one of those… “oh that is so true, never really thought about it” comments…

Oh and nothing is more satisfying when you enter the waypoint and see it come up in the system with no “not in database”
Or that revelation when you discover that if you just type in the airway… it comes up with all the possible waypoints and you just go click, click and click… done…

I hear you I hear you. Anyway, like you say there’s nothing wrong about typing it in. Uploading from SimBrief has nothing to do with ACARS uplinks and many if not most airlines IRL at least in Europe on short/medium haul do not use ACARS for these things.

Saw an interesting post over on the PMDG forums, with regards to some cockpit details that aren’t accurate for current 737s. Supposedly this was vouched for by real pilots of the jet. From what I gathered, PMDG has either ignored the requests, challenged the accuracy or just made some vague references to including one or two in a future update. Thoughts? See below:

I’ve submitted a ticket to (hopefully) be officially noted by PMDG for consideration, but I was curious if any other real world 737 pilots can add to this to help keep this wonderful plane up to date and relevant!

Slight differences/newer equipment in the flight deck on real world 737s:

1) Pressurization panels - The older pressurization panels in the NG has orange numerical digits (Please see attached Old Press 1&2). These digits should match color wise, exactly the same as the digits on the radio panel (VHF/NAV radios).
2) Digital (New) Pressurization Panel - The font is off. It should match the photos I have included (New Press 1&2).
3) All the 737s that I have flown, not new birds, but have the new Boeing clock installed (New Clock). The one modeled is the old version. I fly the 800 series IRL, and the airframes we have date back to ~2010, and not a single one has the old style clock. A new clock option would be very appreciated!
4) CDU version A2. This is the newer style CDU that includes VNAV/ATC/FMC COMM hotkeys - most (if not all) US carriers use this new style CDU. This option would be awesome!
5) FMC Fix Page - a “ERASE FIX” prompt is present on the fix page, on LSK 5L. All it does is erase the current fix. Would be awesome to see this, because my muscle memory is always trying to delete the fix, as I do IRL from that location lol.
6) 737 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR). Most 737s now have this equipped. It’s essentially a new NAV radio interface. Attached is a picture.

Summary of PMDG responses on the above:
1) Response was that those panels were removed as part of an AD and should not exist in any service aircraft any more. (I personally disagree as there are many in service today)
3) They are aware of it and have no plans to implement new type of clock.
4) They are aware of it. It requires remodelling but they didn’t state if they will implement it or if they are working on it.
6) This is coming with -900 release.

I experienced this for the first time this morning and funnily enough I was in my first flight in the 737-700 since the update. I have done several flights in the 800 since the update and have not had this issue?
