TBH along a similar theme with boredom / 737 flying I suspect the EFB/UFT may pique my interest for about a day, there’s not going to be anything I can’t do now with it. I do suspect it will perhaps drive more 737 sales when it makes it to XBox post SU12 (WASM on console fix). I’d say any release will be geared more towards that as I doubt it’s going to drive sales right now on PC. The 900 maybe (especially if it is in there from get go with variant roll out a few weeks away), and maybe that is why the 900 hasn’t been released yet.
Same boat, I couldn’t care less about the EFB. Unless it can play Netflix of course.
When modularity was brought up a few months ago, the implication from PMDG was that it would be something they would work into their SDK so developers could presumably use it for whatever they wanted like integrating the Navigraph in-sim Charts application, etc. Someone in the conversation suggested they’d want a Spotify player, which honestly sounds like a good idea.
I am using career addons and I never get bored. Also I don’t fly in Europe (where I fly IRL), but in the US (especially Alaska, Westcoast and Eastcoast - real weather only) - so it is always like a little vacation.
Regarding career addons. I started with “On Air” which I consider the best, but I hate!!! subscriptions, bought Air Hauler 2 - to complicated (for me at least) and ended up using Neofly 4 exclusively.
Regarding boredom of the 737. I think it is natural, that people don’t buy every variant of an aircraft with only minor differences. I only bought the 700 because it was the 1st and more importantly because it has a cargo version and I’m not interested in any other NG variant. Having flown the 700 and 800 IRL I can tell there are of course differences in the flight model (700 being a go kart, 800 being a station wagon) and a few minor ones in the cockpit, but nothing justifying paying full price for the 800.
Just my 2 cents.
Just to add an anecdote to your list: I’ve flown those plus A Pilot’s Life Chapter 2. APL is a one-time purchase, so no subscription. But it is exactly what it says on the tin: the life of a corporate/airline pilot, for better or worse.
In APL you can generate real-life routes for your airline employer, then you fly those in succession (but when you want). If you generate a schedule you don’t like, you can regenerate, and you can choose short, medium, long; round-trip, hub, or random.
That’s why I recently started fiddling with the failures. Suddenly there are complex systems I need to learn about.
My bad, did a poor job at articulation - I actually own KBOS, KIAD and KORD but not others like KLAX on west coast.
Have to say the 737 really spoil the other planes for me. Cheaped out on the -600 thinking i’ll just buy the cheap one as i hardly fly airliners.
Now it is almost the only plane i fly and the -800 will likely follow rather sooner then later.
Just no other plane gets close to the 737 as a package. Great fps, fabulous sound, nice visuals, amazing FM and as far as i am aware the best AP behavior. And not to forget the customisation options.
The sound alone though. When spooling those engines on pushback, and then when departing the gate. The switches and softkeys. It’s almost an asmr experience.
But every other plane starts to feel lacking in some area in comparisson.
I have to agree with you. I bought the 800 last week and it’s amazing. I still enjoy my other planes, but i do have to agree that i see why everyone loves it so much.
Are they bringing the other variants in too?
Got no clue. You might want to ask over on the PMDG forums. But if I had to guess, I’d say yes, eventually. Since the plane is still PC-only until SU12 brings WASM support to consoles, you could always just buy any variant directly from PMDG.
I only ever fly GA (90% of the time) and only occasionally a business jet (Hjet) or military jet (JF Hawk).
Frankly, I’ve always found airliners boring, heavy on fps and anyway, I don’t particularly enjoy spending ages programming the FMC or ages starting the aircraft. I like to get up in the air and on the flight path asap.
I bought the 737-600 though because it was cheap (just less than £30) and I wanted to try something different.
What else can I say?
Actually, plenty.
It is now my favorite ac and has unbelievably shunted the BS King Air from top place which for me is no mean feat.
I now love programming the FMC and starting up the AC. I’m definitely not an expert but at least the auto pilot follows a flight path and the 737 lands where it should without being a complete write off! With P2Atc, a couple of base shakers, three monitors, fs realistic, fs crew and the honeycomb bravo it’s pretty immersive.
A fantastic AC, a fantastic flight model and fantastic fps. I love the maintenance stuff as well. Not too bothered about the EFB either to be honest which due to delays is probably a good thing.
The only thing I am really struggling with at the moment is assigning some exterior lights (strobe etc) to the Bravo. I have AAO and have downloaded a template from .to but so far have not managed to set them all up.
Anyway, well done PMDG.
Edit: I 've now sorted out the exterior lights using AAO
I have the startup pretty much under control. The only thing i struggle with are the take-off and wind data. Every tutorial does it differently and my simbrief data doesn’t always match with the said tutorial or youtuber in question. What do you guys use or recommend?
For takeoff wind data, I check the local METAR during pre-flight and enter the data from that.
Thanks. @LameLefty My primary reason for doing it through market place is I don’t get to fly too often and so managing multiple installers etc can be a bit of a pain. Seems easier to manage through marketplace. ![]()
Sure, I get it. Right now, I have products that need Marketplace updates, plus some that need the AerosoftOne installer, the OrbX installer, the FSDT Installer, the SimMarket Installer, plus a bunch of standalone downloads from JustFlight, Blig Radials, FlyingIron and Milviz that all get downloaded separately and copied into the Community folder. It can be a challenge to keep up with everything.
That said, the cost for Marketplace simplicity is it’s out of the developers’ hands how long it takes to get updates out to customers, plus the devs have to pay a percentage to MS for the privilege of Marketplace convenience.
Yeah…tbh I’ve been left frustrated waiting for updates sometimes given its PMDG and probably going to become my primary aircraft to fly maybe I’ll go direct instead
If you can, go direct. Waiting 3-4 weeks extra is just stupid imo. Devs that are serious and have high quality, expensive addons should have a way to fasttrack patches and updates.
I agree that they should be able to release patches on the market at the same time they release direct. Also i think there should be a minimum standard for addons. They all should be at least the same quality as the default aircraft. Some of the money grab addons shouldn’t be in the market.
