PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

I don’t frequent the PMDG forums but wondering if there has been any discussions about fixing the issues when you engage “pause at TOD”? I’ve had two long distance flights screwed up this week when life got in the way of my simming. Last night I was flying into BOS but by the time I made it back to my PC, I was at 35K closing in on Bangor, ME.

The new EFB update nicely explained:

Just downloaded the latest update. When hitting the new option SELECT RTE (after importing fuel and payload) the VC completely freezes and all switches are unclickable. Sim is working fine. Tried 4 times.
If someone can try and reproduce:
B738 ENBR-ESGG

Do you use SimBrief?

If so:

Be sure to select an airline and a flight number for your flight plan. We found a problem in which failure to have a flight number populate with the flight data can cause the airplane to fail unceremoniously upon flight plan loading. The trick to avoid it is simply to have a flight number.

A fix for this will follow next week.

Thanks for posting this video @mhron. Makes me realise where I went wrong - the double FLT PLAN REQ is new. Good to see all simbrief perf data can be imported now as well as flightplan.

So new simbrief data import function (t.l.d.w.) is -

EFB → IMPORT SIMBRIEF FLIGHTPLAN
FMC → RTE → FLT PLAN REQ → SIMBRIEF RTE →
→ SET PAYLOAD {sets simbrief payload data}
→ SET FUEL {sets simbrief fuel load data}
→ SELECT ROUTE → FLT PLAN REQ → {wait} → LOAD
→ DEP/ARR {set departure runway, sid, star and arrival runway}
→ ACTIVATE → EXE
→ PERF INIT → PERF INIT REQ → LOAD → EXE
→ SET CRUISE ALT {doesn’t auto fill, reasons given)

Thanks so much. Issue solved. For some reason I forgot to put the flight number in SIMBRIEF. All clear now. Thanks for helping out

Anyone know how to request wind data since update?

Now using the same method I used to use, I get this in the FMC which doesn’t seem to do anything.

Where it says DATALINK VOICE you used to be able to get the wind data.

It’s there for me. Did you make sure to “request new data from simbrief” it creates the flightplan and wx files when you do this.

Also are you also exporting the dame files from simbrief exporter. you no longer need to do this, just the EFB simbrief import

Yeah I initiated the flight from the tablet, then loaded the route and everything, but just showing that instead of wind request for some reason. Only thing I didn’t do was load fuel and payload from the tablet to the aircraft (via the FMC) I did that from the old way in the FMC options on ground services page, as I don’t want it to load instantly as that is unrealistic.

Really weird, I just went back on the page, and without touching anything since I made my post, the option is now there…

OK, I’m curious as to what I’m seeing here old method menus versus new method of payload ZFW.

I used to load payload via

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->PAYLOAD
and

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->FUEL

I’m now trying out the new

FMC->PERF INT->PERF INIT REQUEST->LOAD

method which loads in things fine, BUT if you then go look at the old PAYLOAD page the ZFW is wrong value and is highlighted in a red text with a background colour. Any ideas why there is a discrepancy with ZFW or what I’m seeing here? The FUEL load is exactly as per simbrief.

PERF INIT (after PERF INIT REQUEST/LOAD)

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->PAYLOAD page

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->FUEL page

As you can see there is this wrong value of ZFW in both the PAYLOAD and FUEL pages that is a different value from the PERF INIT page (simbrief loaded) value. A substantially higher value. Fuel figure is as expected.

Any ideas? Should I be worried or just ignore? Anyone else seeing this?

EDIT: I just completely restarted my flight and it all ZFW figures are matching now. I did exactly the same method as last time. Maybe a bug maybe me. :man_shrugging:

That was perfect!

Loving the new features!

First flight with the new update. Got an auto pressurization failure (despite not having failures activated) and during final approach, the sim crashed to desktop. Anyone else having issues?

Every time I ever get an a pressurisation warning it’s because I forgot to set the cruise alt in the OHP dial, or set all the pack switches to Auto. I never see one otherwise.

I have seen a few CTD’s. recently in sim, don’t think it’s 737 specific though. I rolled back NVidia drivers (to 537.x) for example as the545/546.x were causing me to have more frequent CTD’s. I’ve still had one or two recently nut not always 737 related. The sim to me has been slightly less stable of late and I have no idea why. I went for months with no CTD’s before SU13 time frame, but since there have had a few, but they are way less frequent since rolling back NVidia driver for me.

…and there I am with that PAYLOAD / FUEL PAGE ZFW error / mismatch again. Once again did everything the same setting up via new method of loading, and a PERF INIT REQUEST.
(screenshots from during flight this time as I only remembered to go check while airborne)

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->FUEL page

FMC->MENU->FSACTIONS->PAYLOAD page

PERF INIT page

Didn’t seem to affect takeoff perf, but it’s weird how it’s not consistent. I guess you’d never notice if you never go look for this.
It’s certainly not spitting out any errors or warnings in the aircraft other than these FUEL / PAYLOAD pages that I’ve seen.

I have a little trick for that… I do the RECALL, make sure the Master Caution is on during takeoff and climb out and then I usually don’t forget to switch the packs back on. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

…Also, your screenshots: your brain has the ability to switch between KGS and LBS like that? You must be a magical creature. :grin:

When I forget to export simbrief in KGS I either do a lot of calcs manually in calculator, or easier still go back and regenerate simbrief in KGS.
I’m sure the 737 at one point had a sticky remember of what units you changed the default for an aircraft to, but I seem to change it every flight now as its defaulting to KGS irrespective of previous flight.
This doesn’t alter the error that I’m seeing in the PAYLOAD & FUEL pages though.

I don’t forget that often to turn packs on usually just after a 737 absence of a few months. It isn’t an every day occurance! Just pointing out.

Ehhhh… No that’s not how I experience it. You can ‘safe as default’ the units in simbrief. I always keep it KGS. And with PMDG it remembers it per aircraft/tail number by selecting it in the options/display/units settings page.

I do though, with the packs. But flying a lot of MD82 again makes me more aware of more extensive ‘after takeoff items’. I guess having flown the A320 so much last year made me a lazy pilot.

Mmm, first flight after last update with EFB.
Setting up STAR approach in FMC then no buttons did work anymore, the whole cockpit froze (i.e. alt or speed not updating) but flight goes on, the exterior 3D still moves, only the whole cockpit is frozen …

I will need to go check the save as default setting in simbrief. I do switch over to US flights a lot so perhaps I just just need to remember to toggle the setting ever flightplan for KGS/LBS.

I absolutely love the MD82, been flying it a lot, and every tiem I come back to it I like it a bit more. I think that’s another factor in the LBS/KG confusion for me as the MD-82 seems to default weight format(LGS/LBS) to a set airframe/livery and no matter what you do in load manager it stays persistent. So LBS for AAL say and KGS for KLM etc. Anyhow, OT discussion for this 737 thread.
