I am laughing out loud right now. +1 to you, good sir.
Yeah I have no clue who the FS Elite and Threshold are hiring to write their articles. First Dinging the living lights out of Toliss because their wings you see didn’t have enough dirt on them and now this. They even mentioned Aerobask challenging big guys. Aerobask makes superb planes but they are not even in the same market segment. or the same existential plain as PMDG. They make GA birds built around Default Laminar G1000 for the most part. How writers’ thought process works is beyond me.
It’s some sort of agenda, I am sure… look, I have XP too and Aerobask is nice and all, but… like you said, nothing similar to PMDG. With Fenix, I am excited but they don’t have a single product out. Excitement is good but let’s see what they actually deliver before we praise them over PMDG who is established and well-respected. It’s a whole lot of nonsense.
First of all, Iam looking forward to the PMDG 737!
I have been “playing” this bird since the first release and its still one of my favourites. If PMDG manages to get the level of detail from the previous versions with the looks and the possibillities of MSFS (without all the issues that caused them a lot off frustration allready) It will be an instant buy from me, the moment they release it. In no way I have any doubts off the quality, service and follow up by PMDG. From all the posts that I read on their forum it has been a difficult road so far, but it will be well worth waiting for.
I have no doubt that new developers in the sim branche could add some higher standards for the “golden oldies”, but as mentioned above, I would realy like to see some releases/results before I will start comparing them with PMDG for instance.
Let me put this diplomatically: So far I only have been disappointed with the newcommers in their “groundbreaking” releases, or they just managed to reach the level that the founding fathers have set. There is no shame in that, but worth mentioning after an article like this.
Yeap what you said. I’m all open to surprises, inibuilds dropped a huge one on Xplane users with their A300 family with very little notice and fanfare and zibo 738 been rivaling PMDG’s bird for a good long while now but it doesn’t mean at all that all of sudden PMDG or any other of the old guard is irrelevant or somehow deficient.
Wonder how much this will cost. And if it’ll be in the marketplace?
It will be on marketplace eventually or so they said. As far as the cost DC6 is 10 bucks (14%) cheaper than P3D version. So figure between 100 bucks on a high end and 85 on the low end. Highly doubt it’ll be any cheaper than 85.
Unlikely it will be any less than 100$ as those who purchased it in P3D during the first couple of months have got a 99$ credit for the MSFS version.
I imagine it will be pretty similar to the DC-6+$20. PMDG, while I think made a good decision in seeing the price at $60 probably couldve set it way higher with not that much loss of sales. People who want to fly a DC-6 will buy it at the price its offered mostly (The only inpact I could see in sales is if it goes over $100). There was a lot of people before it released saying anything over $20 was too much, and then you had the other half saying any price would be fine. However this aside I am guessing it will probably be $60-$80, considering PMDG knows that they will have a lot more people buying the 737 rather than the DC-6.
Well that 99 could be split across a base and an addon a the later date. And the whole thing happened many moons ago. PMDG will have a lot more audience in MSFS so conceivably they could drop price a bit and still make out like bandits in terms of profit.
They could maybe turn it into a general 99$ credit but I have no idea how and if that works out for accounting with US tax law. After all it would require one to purchase even another addon to get full credit and this is something that‘s unlikely to be legal after the announcement, at least for sales in Europe it probably wouldn‘t work out. Too complicated and a PMDG Boeing won‘t be less than 100$ anyway ^^
I didn’t expect to buy the dc6 and only bought it due to the lower price, so they would have lost my sale at least. Loved it though!
Not trying to say it doesn’t happen, however, I think in a lot of the majority of cases many would buy the DC-6 at any price, or have a set low price that was unachievable for PMDG. Definitely not always the case tho and this can definitely be wrong in situations.
This wait is harder than I thought. Never owned a pmdg product but I’m hyped like you wouldn’t believe for the 737. For all we know it could be next week or late December when the tutorial videos roll out and we know when it’s coming. I definitely hope that at the end of the day we have an amazing plane.
Perhaps the greatest fun with a PMDG-product? You can just watch real life Youtube videos to learn about how the aircraft in your sim operates. Not a lot can beat that.
I think we all hope so
I’m just not sure how much is already possible for PMDG or in other words how much of the 737 systems can’t be implemented yet.
Yep. Maybe I’m just excited for another medium haul plane. While some like the bigger long haul aircraft, for me all my flights are usually under 2 hours. So that means I fly the CRJ and the A320neo a lot. And while they are fun it’s going to be nice to have some variety with the 737.
I’m pretty sure the pmdg’s strategy is to wait for Christmas to release the 737. It’s what I would do.
And, well, I have flied PMDG planes for years. I’m convinced this 737NG3 will be a great plane, even better than the PMDG’s previous ones.
I have it it’s nice I still fly zibo in Xplane over it though. Now their T7 and 747 those are an absolute must have at any price. I highly doubt we’ll see PMDG 738 until after world update and game of the year thing comes out. They are not going to drop their bird in a potential bugfest and have it all broken and mangled. They have a reputation to uphold :).
I had PMDG Planes for FSX, then for P3D, and I will definitely get the ones that come for MSFS. What I think makes it difficult for PMDG, or any other Addon developer in this regard, is the fact that SimUpdates are mandatory, and often contain breaking changes.
For P3D this was simple. Upgrades are not mandatory, so PMDG would mention on their forums if their plane is compatible or not. If it wasn’t, they would simply work on an update, and as soon as the update was there, you could upgrade the sim.
With MSFS’s mandatory updates this is more difficult for addon dev’s.
So yes, I don’t think we will see anything before the Game of the Year update. And then going for release right before Christmas makes nice Christmas gifts
Let’s wait and see
