PMDG Douglas DC-6

When ILS is catched it follows the g/s perfectly. That ist my experience. GPS is not equipped here, fly VOR to VOR as well.

For GPS: I remember I used the GTN750 with the 6 after release and it worked. But I like to fly her the old way.

Hey guys, after the latest update which was sometime last week I believe, I flew the DC6 for the first time and for an hour long flight the AP kept oscillating, left and right. I will try in a couple more flights when I have time to see if it always happens, but just wanted to ask if this was common, and any ideas why it happens?

Sorry for late answer, I’m not having any issues using XBox controller with this plane.

Yes, same here. I’m using Asobo GNS430 (route requires it).

Can the DC-6 autopilot slave to the GPS? I thought in localizer mode it was just VOR or ILS. Left/right deviations would be expected as VOR is only accurate to about 4 degrees and you’d be somewhat off course before it was significant enough for the AP to command a direction change.

Yes, you can, on GPS unit click CDI button to select your navigation source (GPS over VLOC).

Great to hear from you as always, Eelis. I hope you’re doing well.

Thank you for your reply.

Ok, try this if you install Marketplace version: uninstall it, restart MSFS and then reinstall it.

If you don’t install Marketplace version, try remove ā€œ%appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\pmdg-aircraft-dc6ā€ folder (make a backup before).

Recently got this. I think it’s absolutely fantastic. The AFE is a stroke of genius, really allows you to concentrate on flying this absolute beauty of a plane.

For those who haven’t yet purchased this it is currently on sale for $45 usd in Marketplace and after watching most of the excellent PMDG yt tutorial videos decided to try it and no regrets at all. The AFE really is what hooked me as I wasn’t interested in spending a bunch of time studying manuals to get flying (but can in the future!). The liveries don’t show up by default as you have to install DevOpsCenter (or there are some nice liveries on flightsim). I recommend watching the official tutorial videos beforehand. A great value at this price.

Gents,

A more accurate answer: We received an SDK update that makes these possible, but we received that update in so close to release that it was not possible to properly explore the new particle generator appropriately in time for release.

Once we have the product stable post-release we will shift attention back to that, as it is a key characteristic of radial engines.

Very good words but no good action that is pmdg

There’s a startup smoke mod up on fs.to

I have no issues downloading mods, as I have for the PMDG and Fenix cockpits. But startup fx… How hard could it be to add it, they cant tell 1 developer on the team to take 1 day and update the DC-6 to the current standards… Its been monthsss

So as I understand it, they want to wait and see what problems SU10 (inevitably) causes before making any changes, and you have an issue with this?

I’m curious, would you berate them for updating something now, and say SU10 causes some issues, and the aircraft doesn’t work properly?

If you wait, it’s been 13 months since ā€œ23Jun2021ā€

Okay. I misread the date at the top, so apologies.

Has this been brought up on their forums at all?

Don’t worry,

There have been a few threads/posts expressing frustration at, what appears to be, some level of abandonment of the DC-6 by PMDG. I, for one, have felt it a bit.

Rob Randazzo has recently (finally) weighed in. They have been very heavily involved in their 737 series development, which (compared to the DC-6) has been a monumental project for them. If you read some of his posts specific to the 737, you will learn how blindsided they were by the mountain they had to climb to build it. They had expectations of taking earlier 737 work from previous sims and using it as a foundation for the MSFS 2020 version. This didn’t come to pass and their workload and time estimates for development spiraled massively.

That said, they say they are still supporting the DC-6, it’s just going to be a further wait until some of the 737 work subsides. They are very close to releasing the -600 variant with the -800 looking like it will have an August release, as well. I’m unsure what the -900 progress is looking like.

Once they get their resources freed up, I’m hoping they will have time to address some DC-6 issues that have arisen recently.

I, also, presented on their forum that it would be wise to wait and see how the Xbox-specific WASM implementation is working that is slated for SU10. It would be the acme of foolishness for them to fix a bunch of DC-6 issues now, only for those fixes (or new ones) to need re-addressing if the pending WASM changes affect the aircraft in minor or significant ways.

Seeing as we, on the SU10 beta, still don’t have access to the WASM changes, it stands to reason that PMDG don’t either (however, I don’t know this for sure) and they are as much in the dark about it as we are.

Patience — I’ve learned this is a key character trait to have with this simulator.
