pmdg managed to make every plane in the sim so far look unappealing , cant wait to fly the dc6
FWIW everything you see here is running on an ANCIENT 6700K with a 1080Ti at 4K- without issue.
A very long time ago my personal FS Guru Steve Waite told me to lock my frames at 24. I did that in P3D and flew without tinkering. Here in MSFS Iām locked at 30 and again- I just fly. Lifeās too short to constantly fiddle with the Sim.
If on the other hand, you find a 3090 at retail pricing- PLEASE ding me asap!

Agreed- however, I hope I come across first, as an enthusiastic aficionado, wanting to expose this wonderful creation here, to all those who may be oblivious of PMDGās lengthy and stellar record.

The Beta MSFS DC-6, what sort of navigation assistance is there?
My eyes last about 15 minutes staring at a PC screen, so for longish flights, such as Hamburg to Arlanda, which I have just completed with the P3D DC-6, I use the WeFly Works pop up GPS/AP.
I know AP in older aircraft can be a contentious subject, but I find it very useful.
Do you know if the āKeyboardā AP works?

The DC-6 is equipped with the Sperry Gyropilot. Itās NOT an autopilot you are used to. ![]()
Because
- Tons of people love these planes more than the more modern tech (I assume mostly because youāre flying it, not watching the computers do their thing. Thatās it for me anyway, and then on top of it, reliving a bygone age)
- MSFS is up to the task of giving PMDG the tools to do the level of detail they are obsessed with for this level of systems. It will take a TON more work to do all the systems of more modern planes up to the level of detail PMDG wants, and I imagine some of the features they need arenāt in the sim⦠yet.
I looked up the tutorial video on the gyropilot ā quite interesting!
The biggest difference from modern autopilots is that itās not smart enough to deal with headings, speeds or altitudes; it can hold a pitch and a roll, and you can adjust those until they give you the right vertical speed or heading you want. For more automation, it has a basic altitude hold mode (which you must manually switch on when you reach your target), and localizer & approach modes which can be fed data by the more modern NAV/COM/GPS stack up top.
So if you want, you can even fly a full GPS route on auto, dealing with the differences mainly at climb & descent time⦠or you can fly on some combination of VORs and dead reckoning and have to manually switch things around like the old pilots did. ![]()
The Lockheed Constellation also flew on this kinda thing. So did the Boeing Clipper. Itās a pain in the rear comparing to the modern systems, but it has its charm. ![]()
Itās not a fast plane so if the Sperry goes a little off you are not ending up in Botswana. Thatās the charm, you have time to do deadreckoning and play the navigator role while cruising.
The DC6 was used as a long-hauler in some cases and I plan to enjoy the navigator role in those, MSFS is very good rendering both terrain and sky so I think it can be doable and enjoyable.
In my calendar we are in the middle of June, the release monthā¦
CanĀ“t wait for streamers doing a wet takeoff because it is rainingā¦
You can use the default 172 AP the same way.
The only difference is that you donāt need an hour to get airborne until you can engage it ![]()
I know it can hold a pitch & roll, but I have no idea how to adjust those in the C172 without disengaging the autopilot and manually taking control, then re-engaging the AP. Can you describe it or point me to appropriate docs/tutorials? Thanks!
Are there any plans to update the textures? The plane is great but the interior looks like FSX⦠I hope it gets updated for MSFS.

If you want to read more about the dead #3 engine, head over to PMDG.

This is what I am looking forward to - navigating vfr long haul in previous sims has been a practice of staring at the same repeating, dull mushy texture with horrible vector gray lines for roads.
VFR is a joy in MSFS. It will actually be a nice experience running VFR in the gaps between radio navaids.
Your pictures are awesome! Now we just want to fly here ourselves ![]()
I spent A LOT of time in FSX⦠it never looked like thisā¦

Yes, VFR and NDB. And this is something Iām concerned about. With each update VFRs and NDBs disappear from the database. What we need is and addon covering all VFRs and NDBs as they existed, letās say, during the 60s or 70s.

I keep hoping to hear that Herve Sors will support MSFS⦠fingers xāed
Got that rightā¦this looks like a real upgrade.

Although they kept the cockpit fabric as 2D textures like the rest of the sims I am definitely seeing the quality difference on the panel itself and it lives up to MSFS standards.
