About pricing

We sit round in a ring and suppose,
But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.

Thanks, Mr. Frost

That’s the secrete sauce, make slower aircraft so the $/hr equation gets better!

I know. They also require you to sign every post with your full name, otherwise they just delete your postings and stuff like that.

That is their decision.

The point is though that if they don’t want people to speculate on their pricing they should not keep it a secret 1 day from release. They also said that the price is “pending” and I think frankly that’s a joke and insult to my intelligence. They should know by now how much it will cost and won’t make a last minute call on it.

In many ways this is just economics.

  1. Take the cost of the DC-6 and divide it by how many hours you’ll use it
study aircraft shouldn’t be a “buy, fly once and done” purchase. It can turn out to be a fantastic investment or an absolute waste depending on your interest.

  2. PMDG will want to sell it for as much as they can while maximizing sales. Computer programmers aren’t cheap. One thing that PMDG has always had is reliability
its products work. That kind of quality isn’t free.

  3. We’ll want to get it for as little as we can in general, although I’m sure there’s people who will declare they’d pay much more for their own reasons.

Hopefully where 2 & 3 meet will be at a cost that the vast majority of people who want to and would put the time in to learn it can afford.

In the end that’s a personal decision influenced by how our local currencies are performing.

I’m at the $50 USD limit myself.

I’ve suggested that given the potential massive market that the upcoming XBox release will unlock that a more modern pricing model is needed. Having a “lite” product that has a basic fuctionality whose intricate systems can be be unlocked through “in-app purchases” could be the best of both worlds for developers and users.

But I never risked my life savings to create PMDG so this is just an opinion; they’ll do as they please. It’ll be intereseting to see what approach they take and the reaction the marketplace has to it.

This to me is psychology
buiild interest in it through posts, videos. This poll and the debate about price is free publicity.

By not revealing it early people don’t get to check their budgets, bank accounts, etc. and really think about it logically. Then when it’s released and you go look at it you’re more likely to make an “impulse” purchase or at least one without the benefit of having “slept on it”.

Smart move on their part in my opinion.

Seriously, it looks amazing in my opinion.

I find “study level” interesting because for many, many people it’s not relevant. Pulling a circuit breaker makes _____ inop is great if you’re using it as a simulator to stay current and practice troubleshooting an electrical fault. Which in a real plane is a very important skillset.

If you’re just flying around for entertainments it just adds to development costs for programmer salaries while adding little to most users in my opinion.

Looking forward to a Canadian Pacific DC-6:

Yeah me 2. Sadly the market for the middle sized planes is not too big it seems. I mean I know a lot of Learjet and Gulfstreampilot who also fly their planes by hand for a while, especially taking off at 3000fpm ^^ but this is not my cup of tea. The highly automated machines of today make it safer and easier to fly, no doubt. I’d still love a fully modelled PBY more
and yes, with circuit breakers and random failures and whatnot
I wonder why you can find “study level” single pistons and jets quite regularly but this market is not catered to. Might very well be that I am just the only one, who wants such a plane. Then I guess prudent move by the addon developers

there is a dc3 in the works, form the guys that made that spitfire, which is very good.
so good news.

I am not holding my breath too much on this one. The P3D showing was not the greatest.

it will come , no worries, stuff just takes time.
somewhere is a clipper in the making, a dc3, and other interestingt stuff.

DC3 is in the works by AeroplaneHeaven and PMDG is considering it after their main productline is done for MSFS.

I guess you are a bit confused, its AeroplaneHeaven, they have a Spitfire in the works but delayed it to focus on the DC3 because there is already a Spitfire.

dont interpet that wrongly, its just going to happen, whether you like it or not, why are some people here so against some realistic ideas
interesting isnt it?
and i knoww the answer to that

here too. I’m all over it like a rash

You are right. That’s who I meant at least. Aeroplane Heaven  And the P3D version wasn’t too hot in my opinion.

Edit: Got it wrong AH fixed the plane. Is rather good

This may be obvious or perhaps I need to ask again after the release, but how suitable do you think this will be for VFR joyrides? Vintage radials are my absolute favorite. I love the sound, and the round dials. The detail on this thing looks exquisite and has me like:

but I also find flying airliners to be generally quite boring.

The Milviz Corsair is currently my favorite plane. I pull the RPM way back and fly with the canopy open. I’m envisioning cruising at a couple thousand feet in the DC6 over larger scenic locations like the Grand Canyon or island hopping in Hawaii with the gyropilot and then hand flying everything else. But maybe this isn’t practical, and it’s really just about managing all those systems up at altitude.

thats would be interesting.

I was looking to get the P3D version. What’s up with it?
