You need to turn if OFF ![]()
ofcourse thats the issue they are working on now, it needs a patch, mp off for now.
Or, fly with traffic tags on and when you see another DC-6, fly away from them. If you get within 20 miles or so, one is going to CTD.
But this will all be done with soon it seems. Really fantastic response by PMDG to be so close to a fix. Can’t wait to see a ramp of DC-6s all warming up…
I turned off yeah. I just said wrong ![]()
Was wondering about this too. Is it possible to “pop out” the tablet to a second window like the other digital displays in the sim? The ultimate would be if we could put this on an actual tablet (or phone) that’s interfaced to the sim.
Totally stealing the “Everts dusk” capture as a wallpaper. ![]()
Beloved Co Pilot said,… You’re Welcome.
OK, so I thought I’d capture my experience with tutorial 1, which has been a bit interesting/entertaining?
First attempt
All seemed good, up until the bit where it says to turn right on headin 020 to intercept the GPS course. It’s at this point I realise that MSFS has spawned me on to runway 10R and not 28L as it should have done, and so turning right isn’t really the way to go. So I figure that bit out, turn around (a lot) and we seem to get back on track.
Later on, after descent, I’m approaching CIDUG where it says to head at 020 by turning to Gyropilot from Localizer. I followed these instructions, but never picked up the localizer on the Garmin. I think this was becasue although I’d set the localizer frequency at the start, I’d only put that in the standby frequency and never transferred it to the active frequency. I chedked back through the instructions, and it never actually says to do that - I guess I’m supposed to realise that, but I was following carefully and didn’t want to do something it didn’t say to do.
Second attempt
Realised that the reason I spawned on 10R was because when I load in the save file, I don’t get the same as the screenshot in the tutorial guide. The runway selected seems a bit random. Also the runway at Seattle wasn’t 34L. Tha approach/arrival also seems a bit random - so I think you need to make sure you check this carefully.
So this time I created the flight plan by hand. And this time the right turn works onto the GPS route. I also managed to transfer the localizer frequency to be active and picked up the localizer after CIDUG - yay!
My problem this time was that I wasn’t slowing down enough. I was at 5,000 feet way in advance of CIDUG, but it wouldn’t slow down below about 185. Eventually though, it looked to me that it got to 175, so I went for flaps 20. Then it all went a bit odd. We started to pick up a lot of speed - I think I may have put the flaps down whlst the AFE was still doing the in range checks waiting for the speed to drop below 175 and things went badly wrong. I tried to slow things down, but just couldn’t and we sped over the runway at about 200Kts!
Third attempt
Tried the pre loaded flight plan again. This time I got the right departure runway and arrival/approach runway, but different departure procedure. No idea why, but left as is and went ahead anyway.
I find that by the time I’m established in the climb and start to think about turning right, I’ve gone quite a long way west and so need to head more like 050 or 060 to head back towards BTG although I could just skip that of course I think and head straight to ALDER.
This time, I get to the point where I need to switch to the localizer with the Gyropilot - which I do when the CDI needle moves…but nothing happens. The Gyropolt doesn’t change direction and we fly off into the sunset…
Fourth attempt
As per the third attempt. The localizer needle moves but the gyropilot doesn’t track to it.
OK, dug around the PMDG forum - seems like you need to cycle the GPS/VLOC twice for it to “take”. So let’s try again…
Fifth attempt
Getting good at the take off and climb/cruise phases now!
OK, progress! I get the localizer to be followed by the gyropilot. What I’ve discovered I’m doing wrong though is to engage the approach setting on the gyropilot too late, when I’m well above the glide slope - that makes the gyropilot descend rapidly to the glide slope and speed jumps to 200+ kts. So when that happened and I realised whta was going on, I halted the descent at about 2,000 feet, and took a wide circle around to bleed off speed and re-start the approach/glide slope. And it worked, and I landed the plane! Not well, but my first landing. And here it is (yes I know, came in a bit low, and a bit bumpy as I approached the runway - I think I need to adjust the sensitivity of my yoke)…
Loving this plane!
That’s a nice Pic !
check this out
Silly question but I haven’t had the opportunity to start the sim today. How do you access the tutorial flights? I’ve only watched PMDG Rob on YouTube so far. Cheers Simon
In the documentation, there are PDFs for each tutorial with detailed instructions
addendum: located in your community folder
Thanks guys!
Well, I have no problem starting on the runway… but I CTD every time I try cold & dark startup… manage to start the engines, but soon after it’s over…
I do not have multiplayer enabled. Are there more known causes?
Well, removed a suspicious mod, turned off all traffic, also live, rebooted the PC and now I’m able to get to taxi… but as soon as the FLE is at the landing lights… gone…
Last attempt: changing back to the original livery.
Else it will have to be starting on the runway and hope their soon to be update solves this one too.
just for fun - did you try to empty out / move away all of your community folder’s contents, yet !? it’s just about trying it out…
