I would say the full name rule will eventually cost PMDG 100 thousands of dollars. Once this gets out and the fact that you are not allowed to share mods or that they lock threads that discuss the state of the passenger cabin … a lot of the more sceptical gamers will avoid them.

They of course can afford it but it’s stupid. And yes, I sign with my full name on their forum because I want to discuss with the relevant people. But I don’t like it nor the annoying amount of backseat moderators, nor the way they bring it down like leash when someone posts an unpleasant question.

The problem with the forced name disclosure is that this is an entertainment product and while neither my employer or partners mind I would prefer not everyone to read what I post about playing flight sims. I already know from past experience that a lot of people will immediately google your name, including your dates.

Requiring to sign publicly with your own name is not very wise on the Web, and I would recommend everybody to use e.g. a fake name. It is an outdated rule that doesn’t make sense these days.

There just seems to be a veiled threat they kick you out of the forum or even cancel your purchase.

The first is possibly the outcome, not the second though.

any print shop near you propably.

I did it online here in Germany at https://www.epubli.de
Uploaded the PDF and had it printed and spiral bound in DIN A5 format. (a little larger than USA Tabloid Extra format)

Cost me ~17 EUR incl. shipping.

But local print shops can do the same.

I had nightmares of formatting and having to define punch hole locations etc. from having books made back in college. It’s nice to know the process (and price!) is a lot more reasonable now. Did you scale it down to A5 or is that A4?

Thanks for the inspiration! I’m going to see if I can find a decent place for it in the UK.

I just uploaded the PDF as it is and had it printed to DIN A5, the service did it automatically with any scaling. I think at that online store it’s all automated, nobody even looked at it.

There where some warnings about printing close to the corners, but with a spiral binding all was ok.
Also some warning about low picture quality for the graphics like gauges and such but it’s all readable well enough.

I had zero edits done to the PDF and it turned out well.

Looking at the £50 mark over here! Not many places do more than 100 pages. Might just have to suck it up if further searching yields similar results.

oof, that’s a steep price.

I have used epubli a lot over the years and only ever used them, never figured they were cheap.

Just found a place where total cost including shipping came to £25. It was all automated so I guess fingers crossed! I’ll post back here when it arrives in case anyone in the UK is after the same thing. Thanks again for sharing this, I didn’t even know I needed it until you did!

glad you found an affordable service.

Yes, please post some pictures once it arrives :+1:

There’s a new version out again… 0028… haven’t tried it yet. Apparently some changes to Jim (giving him some more space) and graphical stuff.

Kept having trouble with one livery that showed ‘Update’ but then gave an error.

You have to remove the reference to it in the aircraft.cfg file and remove the folder. Then you can reinstall it.

Good idea.

I have access to a colour photocopier at work that can do the printing to any size I want, and one of those binding machines. Plastic binders rather than spiral metal, but it would be free.

Looking for inspiration? How about a UN plane:

I’m in love with that PanAm livery! That one is sweeter than the already fab paints. Just beauty!
