So what would you see as your plan I.e. what would the magenta line look like? Does it have an origin, just no entry in the plan?
the magenta line is ok like on real unit (the line start above the aircraft, according to aircraft speed to let him the time to turn, i donāt know if the mod do that).
But on the real unit, the FPL page is empty, just a sign āD->ā at the top of the page with the destination name.
And on themod, to make a new DirectTo, i have to delete this āvirtualā flight plan before. On real unit, you can press DirectTo to another destination directly.
So, essentially, the actual unit has a user waypoint that it uses (your current position when you accepted the Dt), but it just doesnāt print it out for you in the FPL page (it leaves the first entry blank if I remember correctly), which is what I remember when Iāve used direct to on an actual unit without a flight plan loaded.
Whatās wrong with the flight plan thatās not a flight plan having a user waypoint in it?
I think weāre all trying to understand what your problem is?

Oh, I think I get it, you want to be in the Nearest Page, select the nearest airport, and that should be pre-loaded in DirectTo prompt and it doesnāt do that? Iām going to have to go back to the trainer and test that, I forget.
And, yeah, thereās a bunch of idiosyncrasies like that, like, I hate that the alphabet starts at 1 and not A. And stuff doesnāt get preloaded in general. Unfortunately, all that is in the Kernel and thereās nothing he can do about that.
Iāve used a 175 with a touch screen a few times, and Iāve come to realize when Iām flying I actually prefer turning the knobs of the older units, haha
if for example a press directTo again for the same destination, the line stay the same, i have to delete the FP before. The real unit update the line according to my new position. i think this issue is because in the sim, it is really managed as a FPL. In the real unit, it is different from FPL.
Thatās it. the trainer works like that (i just try)
Do this.
- Nearest page
- cursor mode
- select airport
- press enter (you come to Airport info page)
- press DirectTo
on the real unit, the airport is pre selected. On mod, DirectTo page is empty
Oh, I know what to do, I use these in the planes I rent. I know what you mean. So does he. Heās added features as best he can, but, some things he canāt do because itās not the way the kernel in the software works. Heās basically just improving the interface to the functions that Asobo gives him access to. If it doesnāt work like the real unit, at this point, itās just about always because he canāt.
Youāre basically asking for the RXP product, which canāt currently be done in MSFS for a variety of reasons. If youāre looking for actual functionality, you may want to consider purchasing FSX on Steam or P3D, and then purchase one of the RXP products. They are built on the Garmin Trainer and have years of development behind them, like, close to 20 years I think? They work pretty much 100% like the real units.
Is there a way to dim the brightness on the GNS530, other than the day/night mode option in the menu? That option dims it a little but no where near enough.
yes i ask for RXP in another thread but this mod is very good, i just want to help him to be as perfect as possible, included in the detail (perfection is in the detail ;).
I use it a lot now and iām happy it exists, be sure.
Everything i ask is not to say āhey, your mod is not as good as rxp unitā. I just wanna be contructive to make the mod evolved, my remarks are not negative (and iām sure the author understand), so RXP has nothing to do in this thread, it is another problem to deal with MS. Please stop to refer to this.
i donāt know what are the limitations of the kernel and thatās why i ask regulary if some of the missing or different features are due to these limitations.
Thanks for your suggestions. You are right for the Direct To waypoint not preselected when coming from waypoint pages. This will be fixed in the next release.
About the user waypoint added when you do a Direct To. This works like this in the simās kernel. I cannot do anything here. On our side, we just send an order to the sim to do a direct To to a given waypoint. We donāt add ourselves a waypoint.
I suggest you always set an origin and a destination in your flight plan. The sim will work better in this way. This also makes sense because you are always flying from a place to go to another place (eventualy the same).
thx you for your reply and explanations, i suspected it was effectively the way of working of the sim.
Like i said, it is not so important ;).
Your GNS help me a lot for my long trip in Cessna 172 to follow Mississipi River from the sea to its source.
One situation might be you have your plan, but for some reason you need to divert to a new destination mid-flight. Maybe your destination is fogged in, and you cannot land there. Itās quicker to just punch in the direct-to. Now the place you are flying from is that location midair, and not an airport. I would accept he USER waypoint in that case.
Perhaps, it could be possible, if we already have a DirectTo active to a waypoint, to delete this āvirtualā flight plan if we press DirectTo again to replace the previous one (like in my example for DirectTo to the same waypoint to update the course).
(For the OSB to update CRS to waypoint with DirectTo, i had to test again but it seems that it works, but when i try to change again the CRS latter during the flight, le magenta line did not changed. I will confirm or not when i will have time to do so). (my basic english doesnāt help me to be clear sometimes
)
Very nice work on this, ScorpionFilm. This is a really good mod, and itās nice to have something for the 530/430. Really appreciate your attention to details on this project - both large and small.
Canāt manage to make this mod work with the Just Flight PA28 (screen stays black). Works fine with the Carenado Mooney. Any suggestion?
Make sure the 530 mod is in the community folder then reload the arrow
Is there a way to dim the gns530 brightness other than the day/night mode in the menu? It doesnāt dim enough
Thank you. It is in the folder, otherwise it wouldnāt work with the Ovation
