PMS50 GNS530 mod

Yes, you are right on the not highlighted cursor. I will change that for the next release.
You can also prepare your flight plan in the MSFS world map, save it to a pln file in the fpl530 folder of the mod (ex fl1.pln) and then load it directly from the second flight plan page of the GNS530. This avoids entering all waypoints manually.

I like it the old school way…

With physical concentric rotary knobs, one can get very quick at entering things – (Mussel memory) with the mouse, it just one enormous PITA.

I must be doing something wrong Scorpion, after your latest update, I am still having to activate the approach after using the Direct To an approach fix. Unless I am using the Direct To function wrong?

Hi
Please give me the steps to reproduce. Without this information I cannot help you.

Which planes use this nav unit?

Scorpion, sorry, yes here are my steps (which may be wrong)

  1. set up a flight in the MSFS 2020 map gui, ex: KPOU to KPOU
  2. once in the cockpit , my G530 has KPOU/KPOU as expected
  3. press the PROC button, select the RNAV24 approach with WAGIP transition (note: I fly this in real life, but with a newer GNS 650), so I very familiar with this particular approach.
  4. Load the approach at this point, loads as expected, with correct waypoints.
  5. Get into the air, at proper altitude, start heading towards the general area of WAGIP (IAF), (just based on where I know it is)
  6. Activate the approach, get that stupid arc to WAGIP, not your fault, its MSFS 2020 mistake.
  7. Hit the Direct To button, cursor down to the FP box, select WAGIP, hit ENTER
  8. Get the thin purple direct to line to WAGIP, but at this point its still not part of the approach, because after WAGIP it brings me direct to KPOU, bypassing all other approach fixes.

In my opinion , Microsoft screwed up the GNS 530 so much, it may be beyond help

Thanks. I will check that. For now, I reactivate the approach when we reach a distance of 1nm to the target direct TO. Maybe it’s not enough.

I still can not get the altitude control to work on a RNAV approach. It may just be me. I am using the Carenado Ovation. All other aspects of a RNAV approach are working, well, the best that I can tell. So if anyone can give me and others a bit of information on how to fly the approach and have the autopilot control the altitude that would be great. I can do this in the Garmin simulator.

Well, it works fine here. Approach reactivated automatically to JUVBI when reaching WAGIP. Are you sure you have installed the 1.0.11 version of the MOD?

What is your direct to TRK to WAGIP?

There is no such a feature on this aircraft (only lateral guidance). You must control manually your descent or use ILS if there is one available.

My understanding is :
The confusion mighty be arising, because the GNS530 Mod now has a very cool Vnav ā€œCalculatorā€ built into it, but that’s all it is … a Calculator and display.

While this ā€œcalculatorā€ can help the Pilot both ā€œplanā€ and ā€œMonitorā€ his Vnav, it does not actually CONTROL , in that it has no control over the AP.

I guess it ā€œCouldā€ in MSFS, but there does not appear to be an option for RL GNS530 to control Vnav by controlling, say a KAP140 AP. ??

OH !!! Really … The Garmin simulator for the GNS530 supports actual Vnav control to some model ASPs ??

Scorpion, I will check that this eve…I am sure I do, but I have been sure before and been wrong:) …going to try the whole thing again. Will get back to you, and thanks again for doing this mod. Anything is better than the ā– ā– ā– ā–  530 Microsoft gave us, to be honest I am surprised Garmin let them use their name on it.

Ok please let me know. I’m sure you did it but don’t forget to restart the sim after updating MOD.

Hi, Microsoft just rolled out a patch I think, at least for me, the game wanted to update. I don’t think the mod is compatible with the patch or works now, vnav doesn’t work, not all map pages are shown

Seems to work here with the new update of the sim.
Quit the game, reinstall the MOD and try again.
No tested all the features but seems OK.
Now I will check for differences in the old and new MSFS code in order to be sure.

I can confirm that, I regularly fly a Cherokee with a GNS530 and a KAP140 and there is absolutely no hope that combination would ever do automated VNAV (and neither does a GNS650 with a KAP140)

BTW I once flew a 172 with a G1000 (an older version though), and it would not do AP VNAV either (can’t remember what AP it was)

Yet Ashippun5411 claims that the Garmin Simulator of the GNS530 does support Vnav ??
I think the simulator is free download from Garmin… I should check it out.

I think the RL GNS530 ONLY provides a Vnav calculator …
ie

VnavSection 10:
Vertical Navigation (VNAV)

The GNS 530’s Vertical Navigation Page allows you to create a three-dimensional profile which guides you from your present position and altitude to a final (target) altitude at a specified location.
This is helpful when you’d like to descend to a certain altitude near an airport or climb to an altitude before reaching a route or direct-to waypoint.
Once the profile is defined, message alerts and additional data on the Default NAV and Map Pages keep you informed of your progress.

To display the Vertical Navigation Page, press the VNAV key

Maybe confusing VNAV with RNAV LPV?? It should track the GS on an LPV approach
