Awsome job on this mod GPS thingy
Yes the update is a zip file so installation overrrides any previous file including config and flight plans.
Maybe the solution is to create a separate MOD only for this content. I will check that.
You can also use this feature to check your flight plan. Combining ENT, RANGE+, RANGE- and cursor movement, you can reach in few steps any point anywhere.
Iâve checked this issue with updates, config file, and flight plans.
I made a second MOD just for this data.
Available at : https://pms50.com/fs2020/gns530/pms50-gns530-data.zip
Just install it in your community folder and set the config files and flight plan files in this directory instead of the main MOD directory. What is inside this data MOD has priority against main MOD.
This data MOD will not be affected by an update of the main MOD.
Very good ⊠thanks ⊠that will be a big help âŠ
Out of interest , have you looked into WASM at all in MSFS ?
In JS you can only read a specific file.
Looks like through WASM, you can both read & write ⊠That would open up some useful functionality as far as Flight Plans & âin GPS settableâ settings are concerned.
WASM File access
In order to access files from within an add-on, filenames can be prefixed in two ways:
".\": to access the files from within the add-on package. This has a read-only access. "\work": to access a persistent storage that the add-on can use. **This is a read/write access**.
I will check that but not now.
Currently, Iâm trying to find a kind of workaround to the broken waypoint insertion/deletion.
Itâs a little bit linked to flight plan saving because a possible workaround is to save the complete flight plan in memory, add the waypoint to this memory flight plan and replace the current flight plan by this modified one.
The workaround seems to work. I can now easily add enroute waypoints even with an approach loaded.
I have now to test that while flying in different situations.
I discovered one thing in the sim that made me crazy during my tests: you cannot add any kind of waypoint as the last enroute when there is an approach loaded.
The sim makes some kind of check and hides the waypoint if itâs too far away from your first approach waypoint. This is very subtle but finally makes sense.
Great that you have figured out a way to restore the âadd waypointâ functionality.
I suspect it will be some time before Asobo addresses it .
It might make sense what is actually happening, but makes no sense why it should be programmed to be happening.
So, with your work around, does it allow ANY waypoint, even ones far away after the last enroute WP ?
You should be able to program any WP in at any point, even if you are stupid enough to enter one 1000 miles away⊠thatâs Pilot error, â the GPS should not be trying to outsmart the Pilot, even if it seems a âcool featureâ to add when your are a Games Developer, designing a Sim !!
I am of course, assuming that this WP limitation is not in the real world unit ?
This is a simâs check, not mine. And it seems to occur only for the last enroute waypoint.
So any waypoint can be entered. There is one case where this waypoint will be hidden: if this is the last enroute waypoint, if there is an approach loaded and if the waypoint is too far from the first approach waypoint.
I tried with waypoints at about 100nm, it works, I tried at 1000nm, itâs then hidden (but you see it again as soon as you remove the approach). I didnât make more investigations for now.
You can reproduce this behaviour in the world map. Choose 2 airports and IFR flight. Set an approach for the destination and try to insert a waypoint as the last enroute wp. It works until a certain limit of distance but not after. If you remove the approach you can set any waypoint at any distance.
Thanks for the clarification. Does not seem to be an issue then⊠why would anyone want to add a WP over 100nm away from the 1st approach WP . ?
Impressive debugging though !!
Really looking forward to be able to add WPs again
Question, I am fairly new to this Mod (Thanks so much). I am now flying the Carenado Mooney with it installed. Tonight, about 70 miles back I went to Load an RNAV approach into an airport. The whole GPS froze and did not work for the rest of the flight. The approach did not load. The VFR map also froze. Is this a bug, or did I mess something up?
Also, before I even turn on the master in the Mooney it shows the Garmin unit has power and says something to the effect of âThis is the bottom of the screenâ.
Are you sure you have the latest MODâs version installed?
Thank you to check that and install it if not.
Could any issues with the MOD, cause the VFR Map to have issues ?
maybe its something not associated with the Mod, causing an issue, and also causing the GPS to freeze up, when the VFR map freezes up.
One obvious test ⊠does the VFR map ever freeze up without the Mod in the Community folder, and what else do you have lurking in that folder ??
The newer version of the Mod, display the Version when the GPS initializes ![]()
Makes checking real easy ⊠(even the Monkey can do it now )
Quick questionâŠdoes this mod need to load before any other? Do I need to change the name of the folder to begin with an a or 1 so it loads first?
A priori not. This MOD uses its own set of modified MSFS files. Now it also uses some standard shared MSFS source code. If one of these files is modified by another MOD, this can create issues if these MODS are not built correctly.
When you build a MOD, you must not directly replace the original MSFS source code but create a copy of these originals and modify them. Not all the moders do that, unfortunately.
In a future release, I plan to embed all the files Iâm using, including the not modified ones in order to avoid this situation.
I have not renamed it from its default name, and all seems to load and run fine,
May depend on what other addons you have loaded at the same time, but so far, I have had no issues , I do use it in an whole plane, that is in community, but the plane loads first, so the mode will mod anything in that plane (ie its GNS530 ), which is as wanted.
I had a weird thing happen - my Mooney stopped following the flight plan. First time it happened, I just hand-flew as it was a short flight. Second time I noticed that the MSG annunciator was on and it said my next waypoint is an invalid waypoint (following MSFS flight planner plan)⊠I removed the mod and donât encounter this issue anymore. What gives?
Shame you did not just delete that waypoint, and see if all was OK, having taken note of the rogue waypoint. (so that the issue could be debugged etc _)
Instead you just "Threw the the baby out with the bath water "
True. It is a shame. I had limited time on my hands though and chose to hand-fly it. I will try again now as I am about to restart the sim and see what happens with future flights.
