I don’t really fly, but I think I’ll support American Airlines if and when I get the chance again. I’ve heard some good things about how they operate, but also recently found out they have a special program that provides mock flights for kids and families dealing with autism. The families go through everything, from parking, to check in, to security, boarding, even taxiing around and then deboarding (no actual flying), all to get better acquainted with the experience in a low stress environment. That’s something I can get behind and makes traveling better for everyone (not just those with special needs).
My closest friend is the CEO of an aviation company and is constantly flying all over the world (always business class) on many different airlines. He has told me many times that Turkish Airlines is by far the best airline experience from a passenger’s perspective.
For me personally, I have flown on the following:
Air Canada
WestJet
Alaska Airlines
Delta Air Lines
British Airways
KLM
EVA Air
AirAsia
Malaysian Airlines
I’m not a business class passenger, but of those above, flying premium economy on EVA Air from YVR-TPE-SIN was the best airline experience I’ve personally had so far. Plus, their liveries and cabins are adorable!
I’ve flown a lot but don’t recall ever flying on any non-US airline. So Delta and Alaska are the only ones the list I’ve been on. Even my international flights were US airlines.
I usually chose United , American, Delta, and a few that no longer exist. The ones I could add miles easiest to my frequent flier program were my first choices when schedule and price was not an issue. Every airline was at the mercy of the airport and weather of the flight ends anyway. Regardless of the airline name, I enjoyed flights when I got a first class upgrade and disliked a flight when wedged between people and a reclined seat back in front of me in a cattle class section. I liked Aloha airlines but I can’t recall it being the airline or just the location.
Frankly I would avoid air travel now. Today’s passengers, airport security hassles, in-flight meal unavailability, restrictive and expensive baggage storage, little legroom, etc. make driving much more attractive.
As for Delta; I heard if you die in the South whether you’re headed to Heaven or Hell you will have to go through Atlanta.
My favorite airline for domestic US would be United. They aren’t included in the list, so I can’t vote. (Sounds like a conspiracy to me!) Reasons: mostly fly direct where I want to go, most always on time each way, great service by gate agents (ok, a relative works for them, but still). Thanks. --Redeye
I hear great things about Emirates’ service but I can’t afford their expensive tickets and don’t travel out that way often. Most of the time it’s Alaska and United up and down the US west coast for me.
I have flyed (pre-pandemic) several times Emirates business class in the A380, Barcelona to China or India (via Dubai), and that’s the best ever flying experience you can get. On my last trip with them (2019) I used miles to upgrade to first class and that was even better (how about some Iranian caviar as appetizer?)
I am waiting for the FBW guys to release the A380 to repeat in MSFS some of those flights…
I would fly Emirates if I was going to the right destination. Also heard good things about ANA. When I fly, it tends to be short-haul European, and historically I’ve flown British Airways in preference to the lower-cost airlines, but BA is a shadow of what it used to be and their reliability levels seem to have dropped a lot as well. I haven’t had to fly for business since pre-pandemic and don’t expect to any time soon, and for personal purposes, probably not in the next few years. All my flying is in the sim
Flying to the US, I wouldn’t fly a US carrier if a UK one was available. I’ve flown American and United and had a bad time on both. I don’t assume Delta is any better. I had a worse time on Lufthansa (don’t ask!). I’d go with Virgin, most likely, or BA if not.
For the poll I voted Emirates because I would like to try them out one day.
I made a long haul flight (from LFLL to SAEZ) in a British Airways, If I had the opportunity I would choose them again !
The flight attendants were very attentive, the plane and the journey were very comfortable as the food was good, in short, a very good experience.
