…..there’s also the possibility of pushing people out of ms altogether if they persist in downgrading. X-Plane sits waiting.
I’ve spent a small fortune on add-ons to build up my world (and aircraft) within MSFS so it would take one heck of a regression to move platform. That doesn’t excuse Asobo in any way shape or form though - I expect/hope/demand/pray-for continued progress.
But, after reading many posts from users on both platforms, isn’t the degradation of visuals and the lower resolution of tiles common to both 2020 and 2024? And if that is the case, what incentive do they have to lower things further? They certainly don’t want sales on 2024 to start slowing down. So I don’t see an intentional lowering of quality … of course that doesn’t rule out incompetence, short-sightedness, or unintentional glitches leading to regressions with any update.
All that notwithstanding, we still have an issue about not exceeding the hardware capabilities of current consoles which I am pretty sure has led to compromises for PC users.
If I recall the lower texture resolution was not intentional and something they want to fix at some point.
Not quite. MSFS 2024 had those lower resolution tiles from the start, and they reported and complained about it. Those of us in MSFS 2020 didn’t notice until WE were moved onto the same world when the SU16 beta was released and then went live.
At that point we noticed the same problems, but the transition was arguably worse worse for us because we HAD better textures all this time, and now had no way to go back to our ‘better’ world.
I’ve recently shifted to MSFS2024, because I had to confirm compatibility of my first payware airports scenery project for MSFS2024. I successfully confirmed my airport’s MSFS2024 compatibility and my first impression of this hands-on experience is that it truly relies on a different sim engine than MSFS2020 does. I still personally think MSFS2020 visuals, when run on a high end system, feel more immersive, yet again MSFS2024 has a unique and distinct feel of a brand-new thing and must confess that this new engine is able to run it way smoother on similar settings with MSFS2020.
Does anyone know when SU17 is supposed to be hitting beta? Also, how would I go about signing myself up for beta if I got the sim from Steam?
Steam is easy for a beta. Just look in the left menu’s, can’t recall which I think you need to R click on the 2020 MSFS. Select and sign in.
There has been no word on an exact date. The 2026 roadmap shows a release date of September, so any beta would presumably start a few weeks before then. However, schedules can & do slip, so I’d just wait for an announcement in Official Microsoft Flight Simulator > News & Announcements
