[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Sim Update 16 & 16.1 Feedback

Because of the tlod, i havent been able to buy any planes I wanted to get. When SU16 was beta about to launch, I had to hold off from buying anything if the sim becomes broken, and here we still are..

Don’t forget the live dev stream today. Hopefully some answers on this.

For those who haven’t seen, I recommend checking out the developer stream which occurred just 4 hours ago at around 12 minutes in.

Really happy with the outcome of how the texture degregation issue is being checked, acknowledged and responded to and great to know that a fix / re-consolidation of higher quality world textures will be worked on.

Thanks Asobo/MS for listening and acting on this.

Yup. Timeline and link is here:

Was middle of the night here so couldn’t watch live but the acknowledgment of these issues and our feedback is highly appreciated!

While Seb’s answer to my question was “we didn’t mean to break anything”, it is at least an answer.

Must say the flight last night (around Nice so was PG area) had a huge amount of pop in as others have also noted, so certainly a lot of fixing needs doing and here’s hoping it isn’t 12 months till su17 beta for them to bring such fixes. I am certainly happy for testing a 16.1 update which Seb I recommend is just rollback to known good SU15 and try again!!

I watched as well and am cautiously optimistic that the issues will be resolved. As was stated, just acknowledging that there was an unintended negative impact on the scenery quality in MSFS2020 post SU16 is a step in the right direction. Fingers crossed.

I’m glad to hear that they still have the old Bing data and will bring the best quality between old and new aerial selectively. Hopefully it’s not another months of waiting.

Su17 is circa next northern hemisphere summer they did note, so yeah really hope we don’t have to live with su16 as is till then!

If say in 16.1 they could re-enable high resolution tiles capability, and revert the changes to lod, then wouldn’t mind as much if the ‘artistic’ part of blending maps needs a bit more time personally.

Being as su16 was what brought me to this forum (as I was perfectly content prior) it should be some consolation to everyone whom did the same that Jorg did note they do indeed read and review what is posted here. Let’s see what they can now do but don’t expect them to unwind the damage of su16 overnight I would caution.

The colours ARE the same for everyone. What is varying between users is the distance at which higher resolution ground textures pop in, how blurred the ground textures look, and the distance at which scenery objects pop in.

I was happy to hear that :

“… And I saw the same thing, the dark, nice, green, lush textures we had before are now a little bit more yellow, simply because the satellite images we got was later in the year when it was dry.

And so, we just looked at this. We actually had a meeting on this just this morning. And we still have the old textures around.

And now, so, obviously, I’m aware of the community thread, and we’re reading it. So, we’re going to do an exercise where we go through what is better, what is not, and make some creative choices. And I think it’s going to, I basically said, so, our director should be part of this.

Because a lot of it is an artistic decision, what actually feels more vibrant and more fun. But we’ll work on this, and we’ll get back to you exactly how we do it. But the theory is we can create our own world, which is kind of a blend of what Bing has and what’s great for Flight Simmers.

And then we’ll come up with a hopefully optimal solution for us all. Nice.”

thanks…will take a look

I posted several times that I wanted facts concerning scenery regressions with SU16. I am happy we now have facts thanks to yesterday’s live stream. This is why I refused to speculate and instead remained patient to learn what happened and I knew we would eventually get an explanation.

I am pleased to observe that the developers have acknowledged the downgrade and may take steps to address and solve the significant issues we have been providing feedback on for the past few months.

If they still have the old maps/texures why don’t they just revert us back to SU15? Then they can work on making things correctly and pushing out a new/correct SU16. As it stands now we will have to probably wait another year or so for them to correct their mistakes. But hey at least they finally responded.

The most intriguing part is that it took about two months for the developers to deliver a response, which we have long been waiting for, all I hope for is that they will restore us to pre-SU16 condition before we all go unplugged with msfs2020.

Glad to hear the zoom-level texture issue was acknowledged during the live stream, and that a potential fix is in the works. However, if the team is referencing these community threads, why not engage with us directly in those discussions rather than only mentioning them during the streams?

Seb did specifically say it was unexpected that zoom level was impacted.

However, and maybe I need to listen in much more closely again and try and decipher his exact meaning, but the fixes they talked about were about fixing texture appearance/color by letting the creative team pick which textures “look” better. I didn’t hear exactly that they were going to fix the zoom level.

The source data/color complaints are, I think, a separate issue from the max texture zoom level issue. If I’m wrong here, I’m happy to be corrected.

My concern would be that they release better “color” textures but still have a zoom level issue that means they are blurrier than they otherwise could be.
