“One common concern has been the inability to increase zoom levels above 18 or use 512×512 textures. Asobo confirmed that this wasn’t an intentional design change but rather an unexpected side effect. The issue is under active investigation.”
And it was two months after an ‘unexpected’ effect was released - if they didn’t notice it at that point (and why the hell not?!), then do they have the ability to release a fix that doesn’t contain another disastrous ‘unexpected’ effect? I’m not holding out for a satisfactory solution.
And as for ‘unplugged’, if I get your meaning, then that’s what I’m very close to doing to my installation…
By ‘going unplugged’ I mean the time at which they fully end supporting msfs2020 by getting the servers offline, which I strongly hope won’t happen any time soon.
For the ‘unexpected’ part, my theory is that they make believe that what has been done was not intentional.
So why did they even launch the su16? Everyone said dont. Su15 was the best. Then it takes over 2 months or 3 months to answer for these problems? And then everyones just happy and thankful they just aknowledged it?
Therefore, is it actually meant to be Summer 2026 ? That sounds a bit nerve-wracking, we have waited for three months to get a response and are expected to wait one year to get it fixed ?
Those are good questions we may never have the answers to. As far as being happy they acknowledged the issue, I am happy they did and I could speculate as to why they gave the answer they did. I don’t like to but my guess is it was something on Microsoft’s end that messed things up and Asobo didn’t know what to say other than it wasn’t intentional. That’s my best guess.
I hope we don’t have to wait long for 16.1.
I still enjoy both sims, bugs and all, although I prefer 2024 because my performance is much better so that’s what I use most of the time.
I am happy and thankful they acknowledged it because it’s a step forward from complete radio silence and uncertainty if the issues would be addressed. Now we know they have an awareness of it, that they have seen our feedback, that they acknowledge the problems exist, and that they intend to improve it somewhat, even if that’s a bit nebulous and has a long timescale. That’s still better than nothing.
A hotfix SU16.1 seems not likely to solve the major issues we have mentioned for months. It’s addressed to solve an NVIDIA thing, or left incomplete in the msfs2020 roadmap snapshot.
When you’re starving, even a cracker tastes good I think sums it up..
I did want to ask all here out of curiosity a question though.
While I have heard on Xbox the performance is better in su16 (which I guess makes sense given regression of quality and lod), but for those on pc is there actually anything that su16 made better / anything you would not want Asobo to roll back or change in future updates?
I know for myself, my setup and mostly non commercial flying, I have found exactly zero actual improvements in su16 vs the so many things that were made substantially worse. Sorry correction there was the sim not shutting down issue that was fixed. But otherwise was definitely curious for those on pc if anything that is actually good has been drowned out by all the frankly terrible decisions (or unintentional changes to give them benefit of the doubt) they made that forms the basis of much of the feedback I have seen?
