So far, this update seems to have solved the random CTD issues that have plagued my sim since the original release of SU16 back in August. Keeping fingers crossed that this continues. I did about 7 hours of continuous flying (in scenery areas that would have normally resulted in CTDs) and everything was perfect today. Kudos to the team for implementing the necessary fixes to seemingly make MSFS 2020 more stable on my end.
I am on MSFS2020/Xbox X series/Velocity One.
Today was a Microsoft update of 238 GB. I was pleased it took no more than an hour plus to download. I havenât had time to go into too much detail testing various aircraft but it appears it has messed up throttle calibration of A310/A400M/A300-600 GE/PW versions. Things were perfectly fine till yesterday.Wonder if itâs a hint to now move on to MSFS2024
So, went from a period of stability yesterday (after the new sim update) to instability again today. Didnât change anything from yesterday to today. Experiencing CTDs in flight with the following log:
Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 1.39.12.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Attempting to restart the sim results in CTDs with the following log:

I canât imagine what would have changed between yesterday and today, sigh. Extremely frustrating.
So, as a follow up, I started using cloudflare warp during my sim sessions, and it seems to have restored stability, with no CTDs (either during startup or in flight) during testing so far. Praying that this works out long term.
The update several days ago reset my graphics settings back to default. It also changed some of the other settings in a seemingly random manner.
Because of past issues with flight simulators (not only MSFS, but other sims, too), losing or changing settings, I meticulously document them. Typically, it would just be a nuisance to redo my settings. But this week, MSFS lost or changed settings every time I started it.
After hours of playing whack-a-mole with configuring, re-configuring and re-configuring more, it finally kept the settings and seems to be stable, now.
Same for me and still playing whack a mole.
Once the settings settle, I need to investigate VR stuttering.
I do wish updates were optional as it is taking hours or more until I can fly again. ![]()
Wow, even easy jet sim pilot just released a video noting su5 for 2020 was a mistake and they should have gone a pc route separate to Xbox so we werenât all pegged to a low end pc experience. What I said prior about being pleasantly surprised that any online media might actually stand up to Asobo with some hard facts, well who knows maybe this is the beginning of some actual movement even from the normal following party line channels so no one has to experience a su5 or su16 ever again.
Indeed, separating the platforms would be the fairest solution.
You have a link to that vid, looked on his youtube and couldnât see itâŠ.maybe eyes are too old..lol
Hi everyone. Do I need to be on beta 16.1? Iâm generally fine with SU16.
Itâs too late, sadly. Weâve never recovered from SU5, even into 2024.
The beta period has finished. SU16.1 is now live, and FS should pick up this update the next time you launch the application, if it hasnât already.
Latest video released 3 days ago. Around 3 mins in is where he makes comment to su5 holding bad memories ![]()
I have always wondered, what did they do in su5 of 2020 that got everyone so upset? Did they mess with tlod or something else to make it able to run on Xbox but then in a way that affected pc also?
edit: found a great reddit called âSU5âs forced neutering is wildly unfairâ from back then and my gosh, itâs a play for play replica of su16!
So I ask, how is it that Asobo can disrespect its user base so considerably not once but TWICE!? How can they continue to instead of taking an amazing platform and improving it rather downgrade again and again. Itâs mind blowing really.
Long shot but if they have lost their way so badly as it seems, maybe the new Xbox boss isnât the worst thing to happen. Who knows, but if she can shake up the shop so to speak and maybe get some focus back to developing and improving instead of regression, there may be hope.
Whoever did 2020 initially back in the day set a very high bar though..
They simply standardized the simulatorâs features to make it cross-platform for PC and consoles. This means theyâre focusing on a single simulator base instead of each platform having its own unique characteristics. As a result, the PC version no longer benefits from the quality of its predecessor and doesnât fully utilize the capabilities of a PC, since itâs now aligned with the limited capabilities of consoles. Will they ever admit they lack the will or resources to work on different versions? God alone knows
- this isnât true because a PC has customizable graphics settings that can far outdo anything any of the console versions are locked into doing
- this also isnât true because if it were then people would have the graphics set to ultra at 4K and find their PC bored and waiting for more
The implication that fidelity is being left on the table in lieu of performance is disproven with every single post about how bad performance is on their high-end system.
From what Iâve seen, having played MSFS 2020 since August 2020, we experienced an initial drop in quality with SU5 in July 2021, coinciding with the Xbox release. Then, coincidentally, another drop in quality affected everything from ground textures to pop-in with SU16 in August 2025, shortly before its PlayStation release. Thatâs quite a few coincidences⊠Do you know many development companies that gradually ruin their products?
And Iâm not even mentioning the developersâ current silence. It must be again just a coincidence that theyâre no longer streaming.
Correlation doesnât equal causation, even if it happens twice
Also why âdegradeâ 2020 for the launch of an entirely different simulator on a platform that doesnât even support 2020? Makes no sense.
And gradually ruin a product is different from âintentionally degrade the quality of one product to compensate for another.â
ââŠ. why âdegradeâ 2020 for the launch of an entirely different simulator on a platform that doesnât even support 2020? Makes no senseâ
Msfs2020 and 2024 share the same data; to allow PlayStation to manage 2024 Microsoft/Asobo have reduced the amount of data to be sent in streaming which greatly penalizes PC users of MSFS2024 and to a lesser but still tangible extent users of 2020.
Will the next downgrade be due to Nintendo WIFI?![]()
No changes were made to MSFS (2020) due to MSFS 2024 launching on PS5.
Furthermore, the PS5 is more powerful than low-end PCs that meet the system requirements of MSFS 2024, so it doesnât even make sense that the PC experience of MSFS (2020) would be âdowngradedâ to accommodate a separate title releasing on PS5. Remember that very few people actually have an RTX 5090 and the latest high-end Intel or AMD CPUs. In fact, most PC gamers have system specs that are comparable (or even lower) than the performance of current gen consoles. Check out Valveâs hardware survey for an idea of the hardware used by most PC gamers.
Thanks,
