[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Sim Update 16 Feedback

Hello everyone. I don’t know if it’s just me, but since SU16, the Metropolitan Museum in Central Park no longer appears.

This problem of abnormal colorization of satellite images is found almost everywhere. Gamma correction is done either towards green or towards red depending on the characteristics of the original image. The principle of colorization of tiles comes from the management of seasons in FS2024. It is by modifying the colorization that the color of the vegetation is adapted to the season. In FS2020, the management of seasons does not exist. The injection of FS2024 tiles into FS2020 made us lose the natural colors of the SU15 which were replaced by artificial colors.

Still not a word regarding this from the developers? Have they even bothered to at least address the embarrassment that is Niagara Falls? I purchased a fantastic bit of scenery by Jeppeson2001 for the Niagara Falls area, it was absolutely gorgeous, some of the best scenery I’ve ever seen created for any flight simulator in the last 20 years; just decimated.

Completely unacceptable. Anyone else have any payware or freeware scenery that’s been destroyed by Sim Update 16?

I’ve resolved myself that they won’t respond. And is extremely likely that Jorg and his cohort will brush over it in next dev stream too. Maybe someone had shares in xplane, but compared to what was achievable from a visual immersion perspective for the last 4 years has been wiped away. For all the claims to be passionate about flight simulation, the truth has very much been exposed at this point

Just a reminder though - next dev livestream question submission is open:

Your phrase ‘wiped away’ really does encapsulate the whole mess up that was SU16.

The sim was near to perfect visually, a few tweaks here and there were needed in other areas but i feel the getting 2020 streamlined with 2024 was a huge mistake. We seem to have some of 2024 issues appearing in what was a very stable product. JockoFlocko’s mentioning of Niagara is glaringly obvious as to the screwup we’ve been left with, and the silence from Jorg and team is deafening.

Let’s see what the dev stream brings, but I to feel that will be a severe disappointment.

It has been bug logged in the Dev Forum. According to FlyingRacoon, the fix has to be done by Microsoft, not Asobo.

I have tried to complete the update after a few months being unable to log in. It stops at 99/106 tasks while decompressing some sort of zip file. I have tried everything. Any idea how I could complete the update?

We already went through such miracles at the beginning of the MSFS 2020 release and we are going through them again, maybe someone there is doing it on purpose out of anger?

Are you talking about the Museum of Natural History on Central Park West, NYC? I also could no longer find it. I am uysing SamScene’s NYC Times addon.

I can’t find it either, I looked for it with the drone camera while landed in Central Park with the Bell 407. I really would have thought the terraforming issues were a no-brainer at this point as flight sims in general have been using topographical mesh for almost three decades now, unless another ice age took place in the last few years and completely changed the landscape…

I’ve often also wondered what the resolution is of the default LIDAR/SRTM terrain mesh being used in FS 2020. Some places look pretty awesome and others have less resolution/definition than many late era FSX/P3D payware mesh addons…

I had a fly around VIC, Au yesterday and my god it looks shocking in comparison to what it was in SU15.

Though, to Asobo’s credit it also looks shocking on Bing maps via web browser at closest zoom level. I can’t believe how much we’ve regressed with the terrain detail. In fact I miss P3D’s sharp ground textures even if they’re just repeat patterns! Sad times.

Came back after left the sim for 2 weeks, I think some people were right. The ground texture seems much sharper than before. Exactly after WU20 update.

Even with the Samscene add-on, it doesn’t appear

Guys, what’s your opinion of WU20 now?

Is it better than it was before SU16, slightly improved since the SU16 launch, or basically the same?

The relief is correct but the colors are not realistic. Example near Saint-Raphaël on the French Riviera

The Esterel massif in southeastern France is ochre in color regardless of the daylight. This is the nature of the terrain. You can verify this by searching for the word Esterel on the internet or on Wikipedia.

Well, for what it’s worth - another unidentified update came in today.

Hello @TallestParsley2,

Today’s update is not unidentified. It is the regular monthly Navdata update, and we announced it on the forums here:

Thanks,
MSFS Team
