[Polls] World Update 22: United States National Parks

There are a lot of “tree rocks” in most of the forested national parks of the WU22 update and it’s really a bummer in what’s an otherwise amazing update. The parks that are primarily desert or treeless mountains look stunning.

Would Bijan be the man to fix this?

Honestly, this is Asobo’s update and they need to fix the flaw. Not everybody can use third-party add-ons to fix this, anyway.

What a wonderful gift! The World Update 22 is absolutely stunning.

I wanted to try to recreate the point of view of a famous photo, taken by the great photographer Ansel Adams in 1942, “The Tetons and the Snake River”.

After placing the plane roughly at the coordinates 43.753300, -110.623800, using the drone view mode, I oriented (position, height, zoom level) the view similarly to the one in the photo.

This is the snapshot I captured

Since the original photo was taken in black white and has a different format (almost square), I performed a crop and a black and white rendering

You can see here the Ansel Adams photo

Thank you MS/Asobo!

This is a fantastic post. I’ve always loved that photograph, amazing how little it’s changed in 84 years. Good work Paolo, thank you.

I thought one of the things Jorg announced in the original Grand Canyon 2024 announcement event, or maybe it was back when they first announced 2024, that they had technology to get rid of the tree rocks altogether? It seems like it would be so simple for AI to recognize where tree rocks are, their exact extent, and flatten and replace them with a tree.

Of course, one thing I’ve found in 2024 is way more trees than even in 2020, at least in the northeast US.

I certainly hope that it remains to be true!

So I landed at Furnace Creek and walked a mile or so to the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. Looks okay, not worth the walk imho, but next time they should do a double-check or review by a colleague. How do you spell Furnace? Okay, now look at what you wrote

Spending a lot of time exploring the TIN areas. Visiting airfields/airports I’d probably would not have visited and even taking a walk in the area. A new hobby within this hobby. Hopefully with the arrival of my new sidestick I’ll manage flying a helicopter a lot better to go a little but further into the areas.

One thing I hope someday they’ll get rid of are the standard terrain features such as fake rocks that are not there in reality. If you have TIN that’s supposedly able to give details to the centimeter you shouldn’t have to add fake rocks, trees and bushes.

I’m sure this has been noted elsewhere, but I feel the colours and even lighting (its impact, anyway) are heavily dependent on the time of day in the TIN areas. There’s clearly still a lot of baked in shadow work which looks very out of place at times other than when the source data was originally taken. In my experience most of the parks look most natural early to mid morning.

It’s yet another area I wish MS would contribute their considerable AI resources to cleaning up…

Hopefully we’ll get a yearly TIN WU’pdate. I’m now at the point when I reach the border of a TIN area that I’m steering back into the TIN area. Might be stuck in Utah forever now.
