I was also hoping that right after the update only bandwidth problems might cause the stuttering and the blurry textures, but after such a long time since the update nothing has changed…
There are also strange kinds of stutters that can not be explained by bandwith, or high CPU load caused by high LOD. For example, when you rotate the camera vertically (in the cockpit on the ground) and the view crosses the horizon sometimes heavy stuttering occurs. For me those were gone with SU15 but returned with WU18. If I had to guess, I would say that the way how objects are loaded into and unloaded from the sim are causing this. Maybe the forced update that came right before WU18 returned the old way of loading objects.

If bandwith is the problem right now with MSFS2020, what can we expect from MS2024, as we learned that MS2024 will even stream more data?

we can only wait for reviews, and even then,as we see…it can change later, not so good, since the last forced updates sim go for me in the wrong way…

I also find it disappointing that none of the devs are addressing this issue here, though I can perhaps understand, to some extent, why a software company might not publicly acknowledge their problems.

What really frustrates me now, though:

Since the FlightSim hype in recent years, several websites dedicated to “Flight Simulator News” have become quite popular. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to name them here, but I’m sure you all know them. They exclusively report on new releases… “Tomorrow Airliner X gets an update, the day after, the new Airport by Y will be released”. I mean, they could also write about the technical problems and the frustration within the community related to these problems.
They could catalog the users’ issues, publish already discovered solutions, give advise about hard and software issues and then, as “the press” with an institution of impact, present their collected findings to the developers.

But nothing like that is happening.

i think about to try they new sim via gamepass,if i read some very good reviews
and if i buy, then only the standart version…
also a new windows pc i have cancel for now…

Not too impressed with this update. The photogrammetry is blurry or loads in really late around my airplane.

I want to ask, are you also experiencing these issues – stuttering, green areas where there used to be forests – in other regions, or is it only related to the WU18 region in DACH?

There are some interesting things in WU18 though, take the Pfänder Transmitter, for example - it seems to have far more detail than necessary and I doubt most people flying by would ever get close enough to see the fine details that have been included, however, imagine in FS2024 - a mission to deliver comms equipment to the tower by helicopter, the level of detail would be perfect for such things. Maybe some of the these recently added detailed objects will appear in FS2024 in missions or the career modes.

I can’t imagine PG objects being of any use whatsoever where you need to get close up and personal, towers especially seem to really suffer IMHO.

Those two are not related. You can have both at the same time.

It’s just beyond ridicoulos how bad many mountains in Switzerland now look.
Keep in mind: 99% of this was way better before.
Not perfect. But at least there was some data there.
Now it’s just ZERO aerials.
How could this ever be approved and then even called “better” by Jörg Neumann?

Mapping of the aerial not correctly aligned. Was fine before.

Again, like in so many places: Worse mapping than before. And ZERO data in the shadows.

Again, poor mapping accuracy. A general issue of this new “better” aerials.

And then, well, there is this: An insane amount of areas/mountains who just have zero aerials and zero trees.
Keep in mind again: 99% of all this looked WAY better before.

This is just a small selection. There ugly areas exist all over the country since we got the “better” aerials with WU18.

I really hope they will adress this soon, fix it. In Switzerland they could simply use the FREE and commercially usable maps by the Swiss government. In 98% of all areas, they are WAY better. And colourcorrected. And sharper.

I am afraid I have come to expect this from Asobo, so many updates are regressions. One only has to see how much better the sim looked on release compared to now.

It’s also a shame that there are so many posts on here clearly showing it is a step backwards and nothing said by Asobo at all. Not even an acknowledgment.

Well they usually don’t respond in the Forum. That’s fine for me. However, they really need to adress this in the next live Dev Q&A.
With honest answers, not some lame exuses.
And a clear answer why they used these worse Bing maps and not for example the much much superior Switzerland government maps.
And how they will fix this and when.
If they don’t do that, then I won’t buy MSFS2024. Pretty simple.

Asobo is not even involved in making these World Updates. From the blog post:

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team partnered with Bing Maps, Vexcel Imaging, Maxar Technologies, Gaya Simulations, and Orbx Simulation Systems to bring these countries to the Microsoft Flight Simulator world in all-new ways

Ahh, come on, Asobo, Microsoft, whatever. Asobo are the developers of the sim.

I’m afraid not…

They are going to sweep this under the rug just like the ‘SU15 memory optimizations’ they were going to fix but apparently don’t communicate with the Xbox teams as they are still waiting on a GDK to make SU16. They are done with 2020, they don’t care anymore. And before someone says ThEy’Re UpDaTiNg TiL 2028… yea cause that’s all the time they’ll need to iron out all the wrinkles they put in their own sim. Maybe by 2028 we will have the sim we once had in 2021. Gotta take another 4years to spot clean all the blemishes and soiled code, they-themselves put there.

Loving the Austria DEM update so far. The mountains look fantastic with very high level of terrain detail; crevasses, valleys, and peaks

However one big thing I noticed was there are large bald areas on the mountains and forests where there obviously should be trees, but the sim has stopped generating them. It’s very glaring. Anyone else noticed this?

Wondering if it’s an issue with the latest WU or maybe something on my end

Yes - scroll up to see many reports of this issue. Not a client-side issue AFAIK.

Stop lumping things together.
This is Bing’s doing, not Asobo. What Asobo is at fault for is however not looking at the new Bing data and then realizing that the old one, present in the sim before the update, was better and then deciding not to update the aerials.

thanks for the info. will just learn to deal with it for now I guess

It’s not lumping together. Asobo develop the game, they are in charge of it. They should make sure the updates are an improvement not a regression. It’s not Bing’s fault. Asobo choose to use these poor maps. They don’t have to.
