Poor FPS after SU12

I was getting a stable and silky smooth 40-45 FPS before Sim Update 12 (I never used the SU12 Beta).

Before the update I emptied the community folder as normal. After the update I updated each MSFS third-party product and the Nvidia driver. I did all this 2-days after the update was released.

I’ve been getting very poor performance with SU12, now averaging around 30 FPS. I’m also suffering lots of stutters.

I’ve lowered my graphic settings in MSFS to medium (was originally high) and emptied all cache and tried to follow all tips and tricks. But to no avail… Any suggestions? I have found flying at night slightly improves FPS.

Normally fly the PMDG 737 / FENIX A320 / INIBUILDS A310. I don’t use FSUIPC.

2060 / AMD 7 3700X / 32gb RAM / 1TB SSD

Did you tried to remove last NVidia driver and install older one ?
From my side , there’s a long time I wait before to intall last Nvidia driver , when I find one that is OK with MSFS ,I keep it . Actually , I have 527.56 installed , and no CTD nor poor FPS.

+1 here. Particularly when taxiing at airports fps and stutter are even worse.

Then check this out:

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve downgraded my driver to 5.27.56 and reverted to all my old graphics card settings and will try it out.

Update: I’ve tried 5.27.56. It’s much better (not quite where I was at post-SU12) but suffering stutters and performance spikes.

I’m going to try 5.28.49 as I think this was the driver I was using prior to the updates for SU12.

and with the older driver better fps?

Hi! I’m fairly tech savvy but I have to ask, why are we required to update drivers and downgrade this and that? I apologize, but I’m not sure of I want to go poking around and delete the wrong driver and make matters worse. It was performing great before this BS update, so has anyone actually identified the issue? Do we know specifically what the fix is? Has anyone communicated with Asobo or the wonderful folks at MSFS? I’m spending more time trying to guess what the issue is and trying to fix this than actually enjoying what I’ve paid for.

So I’ve tried both older drivers (which ran good before SU12) and experienced problems with both. Worth noting they are better than the March release ones anyway…

FPS and smoothness good to start with but degrades over time and the simulator becomes infected with lags and stutters once again.

Did you perform a fresh install of drivers wich could have change the settings you had made in nvidia control panel (like power setting no more set to max perfs) ?

I have had similar problems with an AMD GPU with Ryzen CPU. I rolled back the graphics drivers and things seem to have improved on 3 short test flights. However, in addition to major problems (post SU12 and before rolling back) I also have a situation where the GPU is running at 99% constantly, the VRAM is maxed out whilst the RAM is working at 10-15% and the CPU is sitting almost idle at 1-2% utilisation.

Surely, it has to be something associated with the update?

I downloaded them from Nvidia website and installed them as a separate file and not via Geforce, not sure if that would count as ‘fresh install’? I did have to modify my Nvidia settings afterwards.

Sorry , bad translation (French…) , I wanted to say “new” install . This option resets all your settings in NCP . I had this problem once , forgot to set power settings to max performances and FPS where very low .

Ah okay no worries! I reset all Nvidia settings to factory upon installation then changed them to how I wanted afterwards

Same problem. Tried to roll back Nvidia drivers. Did not help. Resetted every gfx and data-setting in FS. Dit not help. Deleted my Nvidia settings, and removed MSI afterburner. Did not help. Still stutter going on. Its better from the exterior views, but inside its not smooth at all.

How do we fix this? !!! This is driving me crazy . On the ground payware or default airport= stutters ! At FL350 =Stutters. I never had this with any of the SIMUPDATES. I’ve already done this :

-updated Gpu driver using DDU
-update chipset driver
-update audio driver
-updated thrustmaster yoke driver
-updated thrustmaster throttle driver
-updater monitor driver
-updated bios
-cleanDisk C:
-deleted Shader X cache
-deleted Nvidia/DXcache /files
-deleted msfs/user.Cfg let sim rebuild new one
-deleted msfs/ sceneryindexes/files inside
-updated pmdg 737/738
-installed new FSUIPC + added NumberofPumps=0 in the ini file.
-hard reset pc
-did a cleanChdsk C: on startup
-deleted rolling cache inside msfs
-rolling cache is alway off
-double checked graphics settings inside msfs see if su12 changed it …nothing happened
-double checked all Nvidia control panel settings nothing changed
-signed out of Xbox app and MS store and back in .
-tried with empty community folder and just pmdg 737

Nothing works ! What did this su12 do?.
I Can’t fly now, the stutter is bad. Very unhappy now. Tired of these 2 steps FWD, 3 steps Back updates .

Why is my Gpu at lows of 78% load and highs at 96% load but at same time my cpu is at 4% load. It was never like this in the previous SU’s

Yes, I’ve done all this ‘stuff’ too (probably a few more things too as well) and thankfully my fps now is roughly about the same as SU11 but maybe not quite as good.

Following the update and just rebooting resulted in an fps loss of about 20 to 25 fps for me which is why I took similar steps to yourself. Thankfully in my case it ‘kind of’ worked :slightly_smiling_face:

Having said that, I only do short flights of maybe an hour or less. Some posters on the forum here have wondered if there is a memory leak which affects longer flights. Maybe this could be a factor for you?

Others have had problems with the latest nvidia driver too and reinstalled an earlier version. Might be an idea possibly.

My subjective opinion is that performance wise there is something a bit off with the optimisatisation of SU12 and I sympathise with you.

Hope it sorts itself out for you :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah heavy stutters at airpirts and freezing at the world map in menu sometimes freezing for 30 seconds.

Poor performance after update.

Also. There is an conflict between Coultl with GSXPro , rebdering airports causing massive stutter and low FPS. - workaround. Restart Coultg and you should see your fps increase back to normal.
