Possible Bug with Ground Effect and Helicopters

I’ve noticed a potential issue with the ground effect in MSFS2024, particularly when flying helicopters. The problem becomes especially apparent when flying over buildings. It seems like the ground effect behaves inconsistently or unrealistically in these situations, causing the helicopter to react in unexpected ways.

A possibly related bug can be reproduced while hovering with no assists under the Eiffel Tower. The helicopter exhibits unusual behavior, as if the simulation struggles to accurately model the aerodynamic effects in such complex environments.

Both of these issues might be tied to how the ground effect or airflow simulation interacts with structures and terrain. This can significantly impact the realism and handling of helicopters in certain scenarios, detracting from the overall experience.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems? It would be great to gather more observations or insights to help identify the cause. Hopefully, this can be addressed in a future update to enhance the helicopter flight dynamics further.

There is certainly something not right with the way ground effect is modeled. It seems you are either OGE or 100% IGE, the effect doesn’t gradually wash in or out. It also seems there is a specific point in the center of the helicopter where ground effect kicks in like throwing a switch. Landing on an elevated helipad (like a building) is a good example. During the approach you are OGE until that specific point crosses over the raised helipad and instantaneously you are IGE causing the helicopter to climb, yaw, and generally get very squirrely.
