Possible CTD airport casue

Last three airports I added since 1.12.13.0 that may be causing the CTD.

KIAD, KSDF and WSSS. All other mods and freeware airports worked fine before and after update.

Did you submit this to Zendesk? If so, what is your ticket #? Yes

Look here Bing Data causing crashes with add-on Airports or Scenery - #400 by MilchUlme16206

Rephrase question. Do anyone with CTDs have any of the mention airports? KIAD, KSDF or WSSS.

Looking into what could be the cause. Trying to figure it out

Any scenery addon with aerial imagery (CGL files) can cause a CTD. You can deactivate the Bing streaming data in your MSFS Options, effectively using only landclass, and then the airports and their aerial imagery should be fine. Alternatively, use Windows Explorer and find the addon file folders named CGL and rename them to CGL_CTD which will deactivate them. Rename those folders back to CGL when Asobo fixes the problem.

While searching for “CTD” and “Airport” there have been many results … but IMHO this (old) thread is asking the most useful question … what are the “possible CTD cause(s)”

So here is my take.

I think there is something very “fundamental” about these crashes … and I think those are:

  • race condition while loading assets into the GPU … and in my case … using DX12beta

For over a year I am seeing those strange CTD events … at all kinds of airports

  • LPPI … Pico, Azores … a “standard” Gaya airport bundled with MSFS
    • happened to me with plain SU11 … when I tried to test the Bell 407
  • auto-generated airports
  • custom airports from the MSFS store … or from the community folder.

It happened with … or without additional custom community content.

What I see is:

  • it can not be reproduced 100% of the time … ergo … it must be some race condition.
    • There is some random factor involved
  • if it happens, then it is persisting “nicely” (90%?) … CTD no matter which ramp/gate departure place I pick
  • and I can resolve it by simple picking a nearby airport for departure
  • However … I have no problem once I fly back to the CTD airport … and land there … and take off again

So it is not really about the 3D asset(s) … but it feels like they simply trigger a MSFS/GPU driver bug when loading the resources.

PS: In my cases this happens on a PC with AMD Vega II … and MSFS from a DVD
