I received my refund on Sunday. But let me add some important information here:
I first filled out my refund application on the Xbox page. Two days later, I still had not received my refund or heard whether it was approved or rejected. I then saw that the Microsoft Store was another location to apply for a refund. So I submitted an identical refund request on the Microsoft Store website. Literally before my finger lifted off my mouse from clicking “submit,” the full purchase price of $139 was sitting in my local bank account. I have never in my life received such an instantaneous refund. These things usually take a few days to be approved, and a few more days to be sent to your bank, and a few days of “pending” status. But this time, the money appeared instantly. It wasn’t even “pending.” Clearly no one even had time to review my application on the Microsoft Store website.
My point is this: If you’ve applied for a refund and not received your money back, make sure you’ve filled out the application on the Microsoft Store website instead of the Xbox website. For me at least, the MS Store has been set up to automatically grant refund requests for MSFS 2024. The Xbox website doesn’t seem to be automatic. Today (two days after I received my refund), I finally got an email from the Xbox site saying that the refund had been processed.
I got a refund for the $140, then got Game Pass for a month for $5 to try it there. Until it’s stable enough to buy, I will go on Game Pass once in a while to check it out.
I was declined a refund with the same dishonest excuse, about having too many refunds…not had any refunds, so they are making up rubbish to block refunds.
This has been shown to be a glitch in their computer system due to the number of refunds, rather than them actively being dishonest. Everyone who has received this message in error and then reached out to support manually has received their refund, at least from what I’ve seen.
Sadly not true. After the website refused a refund, I made two phone calls to get a refund, they fobbed me off on both occasions and refused to assist…they said the website was correct, saying I had too many refunds, whilst also accepting I had not had any refunds. They took it to a manager and again, they were just refusing to assist. I did push it politely, even pushing them to send me an email to say I had not had any refunds (I have that email). It was like dealing with scammers.
I am feeling kinda cheated with a lot of displeasure and sadness. I trusted them before my surgery, i was planning to relax and forget my pains with MSFS2024 while recovering at my lovely 24/7 bed. I also trusted them with msfs2020 bug fixes over 3 years…
This refund was not about money. Initially they denied my refund but thank you so much, with your help it finally worked. I will watch Murphy on twitch and try to forget my pains. I don’t have power to alpha/beta test another product after release. Imgur: The magic of the Internet
I can’t fly a simple IFR flight plan from my uncontrolled home airport in a basic IFR-certified aircraft. If I could, I’d have kept the sim. When I couldn’t do the most basic of things like I do nearly every time I use 2020, I didn’t want to bother with it.
Looking at the other issues here — an avatar hanging out of the bottom of an aircraft or jetways floating in the sky or missing terminal buildings or every type of aircraft parked all over the ramp — while stupid and dumb, they aren’t in the way of performing a fundamental type of aviation procedure — should they get those procedures working.
Even amongst the broken aircraft there are a few that do seem to work and I’d have been willing to stick with those for the short term.
Unfortunately, however, attempting IFR from an uncontrolled airport with a simple flight plan being correctly loaded into the avionics and correctly followed by the autopilot isn’t something I could get to work.
I need, at minimum, the basics I use everyday in 2020 working before I repurchase 2024.
If they can get these sorts of missteps sorted quickly I’d be far more willing to put up with other, less “blocker” types of issues, such as those I listed above.
I’m hoping they can make some progress on getting the most glaring of show stopping issues sorted sooner than later. I’m sure, like me, you will also be here reviewing the feedback on the pending updates we will see in the next couple of weeks. How quickly they can get on top of these things is going to be a real indication of how soon it might be when those of us who were refunded might return.
I have received a refund. I do hope to return to MSFS2024, but at this time, there are too many issues. I hope that MS make at least the following changes
Controller UI and how it works - currently it’s poorly implemented
Allow the install onto the users PC of a/c, sound etc.
I bought on day 1 and refunded on day 1. Rebought when Jorg said severs where fine again. What I found was just not worth switching from 2020 and I refunded again yesterday and got the money back.
The History of Flight Sims has always been a History of tweaking and setting things up, buying new hardware and a bit of flying in the end. I am 40 now, have kids, I just cannot afford to spend so much time tweaking and understanding what works and what is just an idea for later implementation or is a Bug.
I wish they had moved a bit slower, carefully introducing new features without destroying too much and creating a strong core that gamers, simmers and 3rd party can rely on. Sadly they didn’t.
I do see people enjoying the Sim, creating a fancy Avatar, flying into the wilderness, building up a tent and pooping in the woods. Happy for them, just not my idea of a flight sim.
