Since initially installing MSFS2020 I have not experienced any problems. Following installing the 1.11.6.0 patch, two problems occurred:
About 50% of aircraft and airports did not load in the sim - however as others have been advised this is not really a problem as they can be downloaded from the Contents Manager.
The other problem that I cannot solve is that any folders added to the Community folder (reprints, third party airfields etc) are not loading in the sim. Before I do a re-install, maybe someone may be able to help me out and offer a solution .
You can search for the file UserCfg.opt. It’s location varies depending on whether you bought the product on Steam or Windows Store. The last line in that file indicates current location of the Community Folder. Confirm it’s the same location you’ve been dropping the Community Mod folders into.
Secondly, ensure the Mod folders are the correct level folders. Some Mod Authors create a wrapper folder when unzipping the Mod - i.e., WrapperFolder\WidgetMod\WidgenModFiles. You want to drop WidgetMod folder and not WrapperFolder into the Community folder.
Thank you for your quick response and assistance - you have partially solved the problem for me. When I put the add-on folder in the …8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/Packages/Community folder then the addon loads OK in flightsim and all is good. This however does not answer the question of why, when the addon is placed in the Community folder (that is located with the Official folder) it will not load in the sim!!
The last entry in the UserCfg.opt file is:
InstalledPackagesPath “C:\Users\Neil F Wright\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages”
Thank you. Yes I am OK with what you say, I have had the Community folder working with addon packages fine since MSFS2020 was released - it is just after the 1.11.6.0 that things seemed to have got “messed up”.
Typically, when I try to answer a question, I am also trying to answer it for anyone else reading as well, so I tend to go into sufficient detail to make it meaningful for them as well…
Its not that I am just replying to the OP, and assuming the are starting with little or no knowledge of their own issues … so sometimes it may come across that I am preaching to the Choir Leader !
That being said, I am having no issues with the community folder, after the update…
although for full disclosure, I thought I did have an issue elsewhere, and completely re-installed after the last update … but it ended up it was NOT the update causing my specific issue at that time.
On my installation, I found two Community folders. One matching the location of what my UserCfg.opt says, and the other in my Windows Roaming Profile. I just disregard the one that doesn’t match, it’s just one of those things that don’t get cleaned up in an install.
Thanks CasualClick, now that I can use the Community folder again (albeit a workaround) I will wait and see if the problem is corrected with the next update.
