Post SU14 Startup

New normal…
I have a Community folder of 90g.
It takes 4:20 to boot to the main screen.
Setup a flight and 2:30 booting into it CTD
repeat and most times it goes.
So 12-15 minutes to start.
Is anyone else seeing this on startup?

After SU14 update the loading times increased immensely for me too, even with empty community folder.
I resolved completely only with a clean installation. Probably something was corrupted during various updates (I was also in the beta testing, never again).
I also reinstalled Windows 11 but I don’t think that’s necessary unless you have other issues.
Also, I am using nVidia driver version 546.31 because .33 has many issues if you google it…

My community folder is currently 208 GB and it takes just over 3 minutes to load on a fast NVMe drive. I also agree that the loading time seems to have increased since SU14.

What kind of processor do you have?

I’ve also done a “clean” install. I can get down to 3min startup with an empty Community install

Just measured it with a stopwatch and it takes me 1 minute 45 seconds to get to the home screen with a community folder of 13GB. To start a flight, from hitting the “Fly” button to sitting on the runway it takes less than 25 seconds. I have a PC with Win 11, 7900x3d, 32Gig DDR5 memory @7200Mhz, RX 7900 XTX gpu and internet speed of 500 down/500 up. Most importantly, I have a 4 TB Gen 4x4 M.2 NVMe rated at 7.4GB read/6.8GB write. SU 14 did not impact load times or fps on my PC.

Your time is money so the lowest hanging fruit to improve loading times is using the MSFS Add-Ons Linker utility in order to pare down your community folder to just what you need for any given flight. The next item to improve loading is a fast NVMe drive as your current SSD is only rated at ~500Mbs read/write.

It does appear your motherboard may support a Gen 3x4 M.2 NVMe drive (you’ll need to verify this) which could support up to ~3.5GB R/W speeds. You could pick up a top of the line Samsung 970 EVO plus 2 TB Gen 3x4 NVMe drive for around $100 US on sale which would dramatically improve loading times for the sim and also all your other programs and data. NVMe drives are very portable to any new system so I would not go with less than 2 TB as the sim alone will gobble up 1 TB in no time.

Based upon another simmers recommendation, I used Macrium Reflect SW to image all of the partitions at once on an old Win 11 boot drive and then lay them down onto a new NVMe drive without having to reinstall anything in about 30 minutes. You can get a free 30 day trial of Macrium Reflect SW from their web site which is more than sufficient - I liked it so much I ended up buying it.

Given the number of gigabytes you have to load for the sim a fast NVMe is almost a necessity and the good news is it appears you could upgrade with minimal cost! :+1:

EDIT: I highly recommend this thread to guide you on moving the image from your old SSD to your new NVMe drive - good luck!

Installed the ssd today. Default install of FS2020 Premium copied my Community folder to a flash drive and restored it. Just got it up and running for the first time. Takes 2:50 to get to the home screen with a 14g Community folder and 42sec from fly to the tarmac. Looking forward to some longer flights.
