- Post Your Cockpit Pictures Here -

Very interesting! You’re actually building what I’m dreaming about lol. It’s my hope that you plan on starting a new thread to walk us through your build. BTW, what VR headset do you use?

Valve index. I’ve only owned it and the Oculus CV1, so I’m not the best resource for VR hardware. The Index is clearer than the Oculus, but I’m considering the PiMax 8k for the much larger FOV. Or so I understand… I’ve never actually used one. :man_shrugging:

Very interested in the immersion level when using the 6 DoF platform with VR. Are you incorporating a ButtKicker too?

I am! I’ll report back or start a new thread with build details, once I figure out how to mount everything.

Great…Have so many questions

Getting setup for the CJ4!

Very impressive build.

My current Simpit v2.0. My new 50" TV is amazing, and having 22" touch monitors for my Air Manager panels instead of 15.6" is amazing. In this image, I’ve managed to recreate the C310R cockpit layout with all its pilot and copilot side instruments at 100% true life scale (yes, all measured and matched to the real things within a few percent).

Still a couple of dangly cables as I haven’t gotten the missing part yet to attach the Alpha and Bravo to the underside of the table. With that, the flight stand they’re currently attached to will be removed. Once this is done, that will complete the layout, and proper cable management will follow.

Gorgeous looking setup - congrats.
I am still using the 15.6" touch screen monitors with AM - you obviously like your upgrade to 22" - can I ask which make/model etc?
I find my system much prefers DP connectors, and the 15.6" I have only use HDMI, so have to go through a DisplayPort to convert from HDMI to DP. This works OK most of the time, but I would prefer slightly larger monitors with DP for Air Manager - hence my question.
And while I am pestering you again with questions, it looks like your 50" TV is flat screen - were you not tempted to try a curved screen?
Regards, Alasdair (aka Flybasher…)

Thank you.

Planar Helium. If you watch any of the shots from the Depp / Heard trial, those were actually the monitors they used in that courtroom. lol Good monitors. IPS screens, and have a kickstand style mount which is nice. They also have 100mm VESA holes if you need to mount them to something.

I thought about it. Could have worked. I went with this one as the feature set was quite nice for the price. Eventually once multi-monitor support is implemented, I’ll likely find myself boxed in on 3 sides by large TVs.

I use these to add HDMI ports to my system for my monitors that will display Air Manager panels. I have this one plus another more expensive one (also by Plugable) that offers 2 outputs with either HDMI or DP.

My first convert to 20+” dual side by side monitors lol. Looking all fine and dandy. You’ll enjoy the more realistic placement and sizing possibilities now. Enjoy. I think a few more might start to realise the benefits and also follow us with this setup.

Nice gauges

I always planned to get the larger monitors at some point. I just wasn’t in a position to have a more permanent standalone cockpit previously. So the 15.6" were the way to go, and they worked wonderfully.

Now that I’ve got these though, I’m definitely seeing the benefit of the more realistic layout and placement as you say. It’s VERY nice. And I can also use the old 15.6" screens in my setup too. I have one as my pedestal atm, and once I get the proper cockpit build done, the other will likely serve as an overhear for the few planes I fly that have overhead panels.

I have to say I’m glad I went with 22" over 24" as I had been considering. These things are big and they end up blocking more of the main screen. I can put it higher, but then I’m looking up and it doesn’t feel right. I think 22" is kind of the sweet spot and glad I went that route.

Yeah I can see from how and where you have them mounted that 24” may have been a little bit taller for you. It’s not an issue for me as I plan to mount them lower just above the yoke shaft rather than on top of and beyond the top of the yoke box. It’s a few inches of difference but one that also allows for a glareshield once constructed. There is not that much difference in size really, the important thing that improves the use and realism is being able to size and place stuff where it would be in the real panel.

That’s the eventual goal for me with Simpit V3.0. I’ll have a glareshield and the monitors will be mounted on that, overhanging the yoke. Like you say, in that case, the larger monitors wouldn’t be as much of an issue then.

In any case, I’m happy with what I have and haven’t yet come across any space limitations. To the contrary, I’m almost struggling to fill dead space now. And that’s a good problem to have.
