Posted screenshots not at full resolution on forums

I’ve been posting lots of screenshots, and all seem to have been at the native 2560x1440 resolution when I’ve uploaded until a few days ago. Now they are at 1280x720 - I can see no option to change this. Can anyone help me to figure out how to do this, or is this something I can’t change? Thanks

There seems to be a limit on file size of 5 MB. When I try to upload a file that is considerably larger, say 25 MB it gives me the following error message.

Sorry, that file is too big (maximum size is 5096kb). Why not upload your large file to a cloud sharing service, then paste the link?

But, when I try uploading a file that is just slightly above the 5 MB this hard limit becomes soft, as I am able to upload this file, but it automatically reduces the filesize by shrinking its resolution, see the experiment below. All files below 5 MB are uploaded fine, whereas all files larger than that limit are shrunken.

Filetype | Original => Forum Resolution | Original => Forum Filesize

JPEG | 1920x1080 => 1920x1080 | 2.40MB => 2.40 MB

PNG | 1920x1080 => 1920x1080 | 2.92 MB => 2.92 MB

JPEG | 2560x1440 => 2560x1440 | 4.11 MB => 4.10 MB

PNG | 2560x1440 => 1280x720 | 5.10 MB => 1.42 MB

JPEG | 3840x2160 => 1920x1080 | 6.58 MB => 2.43 MB

PNG | 3840x2160 => 1920x1080 | 8.76 MB => 2.84 MB

Thank you so much for your comprehensive reply and the time you’ve taken to test this. I hadn’t had the over 5Mb warning. My screenshots are PNG files that are between 6Mb and 7.9Mb - so actually you can be more than 50% over the limit and not get a warning. This is very helpful, thank you, so I will run my screenshots through photoshop batch process first to reduce the file size. The 7.9Mb file is below - original resolution 2560x1440, file size 7,867 Mb - reduced to 1280 x 720
