Practising landing - but want to start 10 miles out not 3 miles

I need to practise landings (again) but if I set an arrival airport (only) to do this, then the default distance away is descending from 3 miles out. Is it possible to make the starting position (say) 10 miles away?

Hi @AndyClark20
You should be able to click on the world map at any location you want, and then set it as your departure point. Double check your nav log box for the starting altitude since if it’s not the “default” beginning point, the sim has a nasty habit of wanting to start you well above where you want to be. You can edit the altitude to what you want (although it will “change” that sometimes, but it will at least be closer to what you want). Also, double check the time and set it to what you want, as well as the weather data in the flight conditions box.

If you are in pc and are willing to spend some money, may I suggest FSiPanel? It’s a great tool for practicing landings and it has nice features like it will setup the plane correctly (if supported) for you, monitor the landing and show a report after the landing. Depending on if you get the advanced version, it even has some failure scenarios in some supported aircraft and some more features.

I think it has a trial version too

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with this program. I am just an user who purchased it with own money.

FSTARTER24 is a MSFS2020 / MSFS2024 tool where you can practise landings, fly airport approaces to any airport +++ a lot of other activities. A Must have to explore MSFS.

Do what real pilots do and perform touch and go’s

Thanks for the helpful responses!

I fly helos (H160) but I set two airports about 20 miles apart. Fly from A to B. When I land/crash at B, I reverse them on my GTN750.
