I also have a pre-sacrificed chicken at the ready.
In all seriousness though, as the update typically ends up coming with some updates to Marketplace items, if you are a BBS BN2 Islander owner then at the very least make sure that is not in your Community folder, even if you remove nothing else.
Prepare to redownload the whole sim again in case of all settings getting lost again…
What happened with your sim?
I never cleared the community folder and had no problems
my community map been empty for weeks so i can get some achievements
They only recommend that to prevent people blaming the updates when things in the sim don’t work. It won’t affect the update process, you can clear the community folder whenever.
A simple renaming of the Community folder should do the trick…. After that, the sim creates a new community folder when started up. After the update, just rename it back.
And people on Steam, remember:
Do not verify integrity of your game files in Steam
thats excellent , I hope its free range
That raises a question. Any idea why some purchased add-on aircraft get loaded into the Community folder while others like those in the Marketplace go into Onestore? Is it kind of like a proprietary thingie?
I think this comes from “remove mods/edits that affect your game directory” being made = “community folder”
In the early days, some mods changed game files in the “official” dir, and had to be removed before updating.
However, a few people reported issues after updates and had left stuff in their community dir.
Swings, roundabouts, safety.
I remove mine, because afterwards I like to boot in to a clean version ready for testing, or to find and report the latest broken thing the update caused.
“What’s in your community folder” … “nothing”.
even better
Works for me all the time….
I believe that all purchases from the marketplace go in the official (onestore) folders -all other purchases go in the community folder. I thinks this is supposed to mean that updates will not break those official purchases, whereas there is no such suggestion for community add ons or non marketplace purchases - it’s up to the modder/3rd party to make sure the add ons work. However, I thik there have abeen quite a few circumstances were maretplace add ons have had issues (I’ve experienced one - the London Orbx scenery which conflicted wiht world update 3 - although MS did highlight this and it was updated within a week or so).
Is Sim Update 4 confirmed for release today?
From the last dev roadmap:
25/5 is the date shown here
Thanks for that
Thanks. I really kind of expected that, but hadn’t seen it explained anywhere before.
technically, no need to empty your community folder, it’s enough to rename it to something else, the sim will create an empty one anew at the end of the processes. delete it and rename your own community folder back to the previous.
And backup your msfs settings folder
